The announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s trips to the UK and Germany has taken a whole new dimension because of the Palace’s direct and indirect reaction.
In early September, Prince Harry and Markle will be back in Europe to participate in charitable events near and dear to their hearts, according to their spokesperson.
According to the power couple’s itinerary — they will attend the One Young World summit and the WellChild Awards in England.
Markle and Prince Harry are also expected to fly to Germany to officially start the one-year countdown to 2023’s Invictus Games in Dusseldorf.
According to The Daily Beast, while some view Prince Harry and Markle’s trip as a positive decision (because they will put the spotlight on worthy causes), others are fuming in the background of the Palace walls because it resembles a mini royal tour.
Writing in the publication, royal expert Tom Sykes explained that many in the royal family are agitated because Prince Harry and Markle have once more defied Queen Elizabeth II‘s orders.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had decided with their charitable engagements to do something that the Queen had flatly objected to when they opted to step down from their royal duties — be part-time royals.
A source from the Palace spoke to the media outlet and slammed the pair because they are apparently “positioning themselves as quasi-royals by undertaking” and added: “The chutzpah of those two is unreal. Their proposal for being hybrid working royals was comprehensively rejected [at the Sandringham Summit], but it looks like they are just going ahead and doing it anyway.”
Royal author and expert Duncan Larcombe said Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are creating confusion with their actions.
Queen Elizabeth might regret her objection because, at this point, it is impossible to see any difference between Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s royal engagements and the Sussexes’ charitable works.
He shared: “To the casual observer, especially overseas and even more especially in America, this will look like Harry and Meghan are back doing royal jobs, especially given that one of the gigs Harry is doing is the WellChild awards for sick children, which he always used to do when he actually was a working royal. It will be incredibly high-profile. They will be all over the media, and you won’t be able to put a cigarette paper between what Harry and Meghan are doing and what Will and Kate are doing. It’s a calculated provocation on their part. They are seriously pushing their luck and risking the wrath of the Queen.”
Royal expert Christopher Andersen said the Queen would not stand for Prince Harry and Markle’s move and continued: “The Queen is unwilling to be seen as accepting any half-in, half-out role for Harry and Meghan. She said fish or cut bait—you’re either all in or all out—and she meant it.”
When Prince Harry and Markle unleashed what is now called “Megxit,” they proposed a hybrid solution to Her Majesty of being part-time royals and part-time independents — the Queen refused the offer.
The pair hit back by telling the Queen that they will continue with their charitable works and serve the world to the best of their ability because the Monarchy does not hold the monopoly on helping the planet, people in need, the sick, the helpless, and the less fortunate.
