During the preparation leading up to Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, there were intense negotiations between Prince Harry, Markle, and King Charles about his grandchildren’s titles.
Prince Harry and Markle, who quit their roles as working royals, want their children to receive the titles of Prince and Princess.
According to the guidelines via the Letters Patent in 1917, Prince Harry’s children should have automatically become Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.
While King Charles announced the title changes for Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children on day one, he did not do the same for Prince Harry’s kids.
A spokesperson for King Charles addressed the dispute over the children’s titles by saying that nothing would be decided or said about the issue while the family was in mourning.
King Charles is holding out until he reads Prince Harry’s book and watches the Netflix documentary that the California-based couple plans to release next year.
A source close to The King told Vanity Fair: “It depends a lot on what happens in the coming months, particularly with Harry’s book and their TV show.”
In a nutshell, King Charles has not yet barred his grandchildren from getting the prestigious titles — he is waiting to see if Prince Harry or Markle dare to say anything controversial or damaging about him, his wife, Camilla, Queen Consort, or the Monarchy.
Now that Prince Harry has been warned that anything he says or writes could be held against him, he has a choice to make — play nice and get the titles or go rogue and lose them.
The tell-all book was set to come out later this year, but because of The Queen‘s death, it has been pushed to 2023.
Several sources spoke to Page Six, saying that Prince Harry has decided to revise many chapters of the book.
Prince Harry is now doing his due diligence and removing certain revelations that might upset his family.
According to one source who spoke to the media outlet, the big question is: “Is Harry taking out anything potentially bad he wrote about [William, Charles, and Camilla] now? Who knows what will change.”
