King Charles III has been observing his youngest son, Prince Harry, and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle, enjoy their unofficial royal tour in Nigeria, and he disapproves of it all.
Prince Harry and Markle’s visit to Nigeria was not just a tour but a significant event that impacted the nation. Their three-day stay was marked by high-profile engagements and warm interactions that resonated with the Nigerian people. Markle even referred to the African nation as “my country.”
They visited multiple charitable organizations and forged partnerships to empower young women. Markle, who is 43 percent Nigerian, took part in a special ceremony that included three Nigerian kings – His Eminence Engr Eberechukwu Oji, Eze Aro of Ancient Arochukwu Kingdom, Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha and Great Olu Of Warri Kingdom – and was named Princess Ada Mazi.
Prince Harry and Markle, treated as dignitaries, were warmly welcomed by the Nigerian government for a special dinner. It was a lavish visit that the world watched with curiosity and great interest.
Nigeria had all eyes on them during the trip, and the government expected a significant rise in tourist numbers thanks to the Harry and Megan effect.
In an interview with The Mirror, royal author Tom Quinn claims Prince Harry and Markle’s trip angered King Charles, and he is doing everything imaginable to ensure another unofficial trip does not take place.
He suggested to The Mirror: “King Charles is in a terrible bind — he would love to strip Meghan and Harry of their royal titles, but fears this will look vindictive. On the other hand, he has to find a way to stop any future trips by Harry and Meghan to other commonwealth countries. That has now become his number one priority.”
According to the royal commentator, the tension within the Royal Family is palpable. King Charles and Prince William are frustrated by Markle and Prince Harry’s rebellious actions, fearing it may overshadow the monarchy’s business.
The royal expert explained why King Charles might be unnerved by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s successful visit to Nigeria.
He said: “The ultimate fear for King Charles and William is that Meghan‘s rebelliousness makes her more appealing than the understated members of the official royal team. That’s why she always makes a point of holding Harry’s hand for the cameras, something she knows Willam and Kate would never do.”
The royal expert suggested that The Monarch would make some direct changes to prevent Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from visiting any of the Commonwealth of Nations, composed of 56 member states.
He said the couple would be banned from these states and added: “After Nigeria, one thing is certain: huge efforts will go into changing how the Royal Family deals with its role in the Commonwealth. Steps have already been taken via official channels to try to lessen the chance that other Commonwealth countries invite Meghan and Harry to visit.”
Many saw the trip as Prince Harry and Markle’s takeoff to become essential and relevant societal figures. With King Charles banning the pair from visiting 56 mainly black states part of the Commonwealth, they will now have to find another route to achieve success.
