For a short 24 hours, it had looked like King Charles III scored a significant victory against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
However, the power has quickly shifted, and just like that, Markle and Prince Harry are at the winning end.
Reliable sources claimed King Charles was unhappy with the latest storyline featured in the hit Netflix series The Crown, loosely based on the British Royal family.
The show recently hinted that several years ago, then-Prince Charles plotted to oust Queen Elizabeth II and take over the monarchy.
A source inside the Palace walls told The Daily Mail that the sadistic suggestion hurt King Charles.
Season 5 of the series also heavily focuses on a very sensitive part of his life — the calamitous relationship between King Charles and Princess Diana.
A TV insider told The Sun that King Charles is dreading the fictive show that millions of viewers confuse for a documentary.
The source claimed: “This couldn’t have come at a more delicate time for the new King and his Queen Consort, particularly as they’re riding high in the minds of the public. There’s a sense that Netflix is muckraking over events that took place 30 to 40 years ago, but are still raw for those involved. The worst element for the royals is that millions of people around the world will view this series and view it less as a drama and more as a documentary. And attention on the Windsors couldn’t be higher as it’s been just a few weeks since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral and is in the run-up to the King’s coronation.”
King Charles carries a lot of weight, and it was reported that Netflix was quick to feel how heavy his frustration and anguish were towards the depiction in the series.
According to Deadline, King Charles’s discomfort with the series left the streaming giant shaking in its boots, and it took drastic measures against Prince Harry and Markle.
It was reported that Netflix pushed back Prince Harry and Markle’s docuseries to 2023. The documentary was expected to come out in December, following the fifth season of The Crown.
However, a source told Deadline: “They’re rattled at Netflix, and they blinked first and decided to postpone the documentary.”
Sources close to Markle and Prince Harry immediately reached out to Page Six and revealed the show would go on in December as planned: “But despite everything, we’re told that the show will go on — and any issues surrounding the doc had nothing to do with the fifth season of “The Crown.”
Markle did an interview with Variety where she spoke about the Netflix series that was put together by Liz Garbus.
She stated: “It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story — a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired — even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it. But that’s not why we’re telling it. We’re trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens.”
The Sovereign will have to find a way to deal with this new twist.
