In the past few days, King Charles thought the problems with his son, Prince Harry, and his daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle, were dissipating.
Royal experts left and right said they were cornered with no clear path forward. There were talks about their Netflix docuseries getting dumped.
Moreover, Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir was also on thin ice because of the changes he had requested. However, all that doom was erased in less than 24 hours.
The former actress has changed the narrative with one glossy cover story for Variety titled “The Meghan Moment.” Suddenly, she seems like an unstoppable force again.
Even her numerous critics say that her feature is a true masterclass in terms of PR. While most are focused on her comments about Queen Elizabeth II.
She did say one or two things that should worry people in the British monarchy. The first point she made is crucial.
The docuseries is moving forward and will be debuting in December. This was the original plan, but a late PR push by people close to the royals over Season 5 of The Crown had seemed to have impacted the premiere date of the documentary.
It is safe to say that Netflix did not invest millions in the project for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to talk about nature.
It comes with the territory; there will be some truth bombs in there. This is not the kind of news that King Charles wants to hear as he tries to revamp and protect the monarchy.
The mother of two said this about the documentary: “It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story — a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired — even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it. But that’s not why we’re telling it. We’re trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens.”
She continued: “It’s interesting. My husband has never worked in this industry before. For me, having worked on Suits, it’s so amazing to be around so much creative energy and to see how people work together and share their own points of view. That’s been really fun.”
Markle has found a clever manner to distance herself from all the things that will be said in the docuseries. Someone else (director Liz Garbus) is the one telling the couple’s story.
In a way, if it contains some shocking revelations, Garbus is the one that King Charles should blame. It is a brilliant move that complicates things for the Royal Family.
