Angelina Jolie has not been talking much about her dramatic divorce from Brad Pitt, but she has been able to put her message out and share her truths via court documents and, most recently, in a lengthy email.
The former couple had one of Hollywood’s most glamorous romances that lasted over a decade. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt share children Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Vivienne, and Knox.
The relationship came to a shocking end in the fall of 2016 over an incident involving Pitt, Jolie, and several of their children.
Rumors swirled that Pitt was highly intoxicated on a private plane with his family when an altercation occurred.
Years of public feuding and a lengthy court battle over custody of their children and their multi-million-dollar assets followed.
Most recently, Jolie and Pitt have been duking it out over their French business — the famous Château Miraval Winery.
In October 2021, Jolie sold her shares in the company to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler.
Pitt claimed that he was not informed prior to the sale taking place. He disagreed with the move and decided to sue Jolie.
In court documents, Pitt revealed that Jolie put in 40 percent of the $28.4 million purchase price. Still, he invested several million dollars of his own money, time, and energy to make the winery successful.
Experts estimate the Château to be worth $162 million today. The duo has been going back and forth over the property.
This week, a private email that Jolie wrote to Pitt explaining her decision to sell Château Miraval surfaced on TikTok. The emotional letter was included in a court document.
Jolie said she cried while writing the message and revealed it was painful to sell the property because their youngest children were born there, and she married there.
She wrote: “It is the place we brought the twins home to and where we were married over a plaque in my mother’s memory. A place that held the promise of what could be and where I thought I would grow old. Even now impossible to write this without crying. I will treasure my memories of what it was a decade ago.”
The actress and humanitarian said she was uncomfortable with business because it revolved around alcohol.
Jolie confessed that alcohol destroyed her marriage and family life and sold her shares.
She added: “But it is also the place that marks the beginning of the end of our family – and a business that is centered around alcohol. I had hoped somehow, it could become something that held us together and we found light and peace. I see now how you have really wanted me out, and will most likely be pleased to receive this email. I can be involved, publicly or privately, in a business based on alcohol when alcoholic behavior harmed our family so deeply.”
Jolie briefly mentioned the horrific moment in late 2016 that killed her romance with Pitt.
She concluded: “I cannot begin to express how upsetting it is for me to have to reach this point. Your dream for your relationship to the business and the alcohol is your own, and you’ve made it painfully clear. I wish you all the best with the business and sincerely hope that the children feel differently about Miraval when they are older, and visit you there. But Miraval, for me died September 2016, and everything I have seen in the years since has sadly confirmed that.”
Brad Pitt responded to the leaked email by saying: “Yet another rehash and repackaging of old material to try and distract from the other party’s own behavior.”
The two sides are not ready to find a truce.
