King Charles III and his son, Prince Harry, still cannot find a middle ground in order to put the past behind them.
The Monarch fired the latest salvo by demoting The Duke of Sussex from the list of Counsellors of State.
The Sovereign wants sister Princess Anne and brother Prince Edward to take more responsibilities in the monarchy.
This move means that Prince Harry and Prince Andrew will be less important for the kingdom moving forward.
On paper, the decision makes a lot of sense because the two men are no longer working royals. However, it also has all of the contours of a snub.
Moreover, in the tense situation between the King and the prince, Meghan Markle‘s husband is unlikely to be thrilled by the demotion.
Megyn Kelly, a contributor for Sky News Australia, revealed: “Royal experts are saying he’s going to be very deeply offended by King Charles’s latest move. It’s basically about King Charles needing a day off and who’s going to [substitute] in for him.”
Kelly continued: “Typically, it would be the top four adults in the line of succession, which would be him, two sons and, I think Princess Beatrice and one other person, in any event, oh it would be Prince Andrew. [Charles] has basically said Prince Andrew’s out and Prince Harry’s out, and instead add in my brother and sister who are not in the top four in the line of succession.”
She concluded: “So he’s subbing his brother and sister, who are active royals, Edward, not Andrew. They are active royals, they’re in England, and they can do their job when on a day-to-day basis, unlike Harry, who’s, you know, out there in Montecito with the Duchess of Duplicity. So he cannot do it; he shouldn’t be offended.”
Prince Harry and his wife are also holding their own against the King. The pair has opted not to wish him a happy birthday publicly, as he turned 74 on Monday.
The couple no longer has a presence on social media. However, their Archewell website helps them communicate with supporters.
Many observers expect tension to remain high between the two sides until the publication of Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare, on January 10.
Moreover, the couple’s Netflix documentary will also do some damage if it contains any truth bombs.
The Monarch is waiting to see how the two projects will play out before making any concrete move toward the renegade royals. The Sussexes think it is best to fix things after airing all their grievances.
