Matt Gaetz is a teachable moment for the president-elect.
The lesson former President Donald Trump needs to learn is that he will have almost no honeymoon period with members of the Democratic party, and surprisingly, the same goes with the members of the Republican party.
Donald Trump assumed that his infinite influence and tough talk would permit his controversial and unexpected cabinet picks to be accepted by members of Congress, only to be told, “Not so fast.”
The first casualty in Trump’s camp is former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who withdrew from consideration as Trump’s pick for attorney general because the House Ethics Committee might release the bombshell findings of its investigation into his alleged sexual misconduct, which he has repeatedly denied.
Other people nominated by Trump are in hot water for their past conduct and might be forced to withdraw.
However, after his inauguration in January, Trump is set to discover the limitations of his all-mighty power of persuasion quickly.
Trump will not be able to enact all of the promises and policies he spoke about on the campaign trail.
The former president has decided to bulldoze President Joe Biden‘s policies with what is described as a “fury” of executive orders.
Donald Trump said that one Day 1, he will do more than Biden and Democrats have accomplished in four years, starting with immigration and the border.
Trump has confirmed that his most significant project is the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants with the use of all actions, including the military.
Trump told NBC News: “There is no price tag. It’s not a question of a price tag. It’s not like we have no choice. When people have been killed and murdered, when drug lords have destroyed countries, and now they’re going to go back to those countries because they’re not staying here. There is no price tag.”
Trump adviser and immigration hawk Stephen Miller revealed via The New York Times that his boss is “prepared to weaponize the Insurrection Act to use federal law enforcement, the National Guard, and local law enforcement as immigration jackboots in the national crackdown.”
Miller boasts of “the construction of massive detainment camps — concentration camps, if you will — in areas of rural Texas to hold migrants awaiting deportation. The money to fund their construction would come from the military and the Department of Homeland Security.”
On social media, Trump confirmed he would declare a “national emergency” and use “military assets” to deport millions of “illegal immigrants.”
However, the man who is an expert on the border and has served all of the past four presidents, including Trump, has decided to scuttle the plan.
In an interview with The New York Post, President-elect Trump’s new border czar, Tom Homan, made an admission that will undoubtedly frustrate his boss, who has promised a record-breaking number of deportations using America’s bravest and brightest.
The New York Post revealed that “Tom Homan, who served as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during Trump’s first term, debunked frenzied speculation from some liberals that the military could be deployed to arrest people on US streets.”
Homan told The Post: “They certainly can handle transportation, whether that’s ground transportation or air transportation… and certainly help building infrastructure.”
Kenneth Genalo, head of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s NYC field office, who has more than 30 years in the sector, seems to dampen the enthusiasm on the reports that this can be done expeditiously on a mass scale by saying it would take a lifetime to clean up just the state of New York.
He said: “In New York City, it would take a lifetime to clear the city of the criminals that we have. We need additional resources.”
According to experts, it will cost the American taxpayers $315 billion for Donald Trump to adequately deliver on large-scale deportation policy.
Translation: Trump’s promise to get rid of more than 20 million people and send all of them to their country of origin is starting to look like a pipe dream, and his backers will soon know that he cannot keep all his promises because the truth is that no politician can.
