Prince Harry might be famous and important, but he is not a royal, according to one former staffer at the Palace.
This week, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are set to travel to Germany to take part in the annual Invictus Games.
Before the event, the Duke of Sussex made a brief stop in England for a somber moment, only to discover that he had been demoted by his family.
Prince Harry went to London to attend a charity event and to pay tribute to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. He visited Windsor Castle alone.
He reflected on the life and legacy of the late Queen alone. According to former royal butler Paul Burrell, Prince Harry was forced to take part in these solo moments because King Charles III, Prince William, and Kate Middleton had all refused to meet with him.
They have declined to invite him to family gatherings because he is no longer viewed as a royal. Burrell claimed the Royal Family has been hurt by Prince Harry’s revelations and accusations and therefore does not want to mingle with him.
He stated: “I don’t think he will [be invited to private commemorations]. I think the Royal Family have pulled the drawbridge up and they are combining forces now and sticking together because they’re hurt, they feel hurt by his comments in many different outlets now.”
Burrell went on to share: “This goes on for quite a few years before the Queen’s death, and I think they feel it’s unforgivable what he’s done and said, and so why would they want to embrace him on a day that is very close to their hearts?”
According to the former royal staff, the family no longer sees Prince Harry as a royal, he has been demoted to a celebrity.
He claimed: “Harry is no longer invited to family functions. He’s no longer invited into their fold. Now he’s no longer royal in their eyes. He’s a celebrity. He’s hurt them: he’s hurt his father, his brother, his sister-in-law, his stepmother. I mean, really, he’s been quite ruthless in hurting so many people.”
Tom Quinn, author of Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, shared the same theory in a recent interview where he added that Prince Harry is now regretting his decision to leave his royal life.
The royal author explained: “In Spare and elsewhere, Harry’s made it very clear he feels horribly, badly treated. But I think he’s already beginning to regret it because he understands the value of being a member of the Royal Family.”
He continued: “As someone who worked for Harry when they were at Windsor at Frogmore said to me: ‘What are they going to do when people lose interest in all the complaining? What happens when the complaining has to stop? What positive role can he have as a royal?'”
Some observers say that Prince Harry seems to want to have it both ways.
