On Saturday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the closing ceremony for the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Prince Harry delivered an emotional speech that lasted over five minutes to thank the many veterans who took part in the games. In his moving and inspiring tribute, Prince Harry shared his love and support for the participants.
With emotions running high, he also showed his gratitude and admiration for “the athletes, their families, and the entire Invictus community” who came together to create such a powerful event.
Prince Harry began by saluting the brave soldiers by saying: “As you have seen and experienced, this week is so much more than a sporting event. It is a platform for positive change. We hope you too are feeling it deeply. I am sure, you’re all physically exhausted, but I also hope you are mentally stronger than when you arrived.”
Meghan Markle, wearing a stunning green strapless dress, stood in the crowd, clapping and beaming with pride as she listened to her husband’s words.
Prince Harry added: “We may have provided the platform, but you provided the magic. We’ve all witnessed the true impact sport has had on your recovery and on your post-traumatic growth, but you will never truly know the impact that your actions this week have had on millions of people around the world.”
The Duke of Sussex continued: “You have opened people’s hearts through your vulnerability, through your resilience, and through your sheer abilities. My hope is that every memory made brings a smile to your face through a sense of belonging and an opportunity for you and your family to look forward with pride and purpose.”
The speech had many royal observers talking and theorizing about the couple, and their marriage because Prince Harry declined to mention Meghan Markle in the remarks.
Some say it was a snub, while others claim that Prince Harry did not want to put the spotlight on Markle because the night belonged to the army personnel.
PR expert Mayah Riaz told The Mirror that Harry: “However, the focus of his speech will remain on celebrating the achievements and resilience of the athletes.”
Markle was supposed to deliver the speech, but there was a change in the days leading to the games. It seems that Markle made the decision not to be a distraction at the event before it even started.
The former actress weighs her moves carefully.
