Prince William and his spouse, Kate Middleton, had grand and transformative plans in the works for Kensington Palace, which could reshape the very fabric of the British monarchy.
The heir to the throne and Middleton’s bold vision for the century-old institution differs significantly from King Charles III.
The power couple wants fewer royal engagements, more targeted events, and solution-oriented appearances. They hoped to be more impactful and provide organizations and businesses with real benefits and changes.
In a nutshell, Prince William and Middleton deemed photo ops and ribbon-cutting ceremonies to be insufficient. The royal couple wanted to run Kensington Palace like a real business to achieve that goal.
They hired the best headhunter to find a CEO who is “emotionally intelligent, with low ego [and] strong self-awareness” to create an agenda for change.
That was more than eight months ago. In January, life dealt a harsh blow to Prince William and Kate Middleton, throwing a wrench into their plans for a monarchy overhaul.
Kate Middleton underwent surgery and was later diagnosed with cancer. Monday, in a truly surprising turn of events, Prince William has abruptly halted his ambitious agenda, leaving royal observers all in suspense about when, or if, he might resume it.
The Daily Mail revealed: “Prince William has suspended his bid to find a chief executive to overhaul his Kensington Palace office. The search was announced last September amid suggestions that the Prince wanted a ‘revolutionary’ restructure to make his and Kate’s household more corporate. Headhunters Odgers Berndtson had been charged with finding dynamic candidates who were’ emotionally intelligent, with ‘low ego’ [and] strong self-awareness.'”
The suspension has left the couple’s office in a state of disarray, with a source describing it as leaderless or lacking purpose at a time.
The publication shared: “But eight months on, the ambition has fallen flat, and the search has been called off, despite a source saying that the lack of a strong leader and ‘all-seeing eye’ has left the couple’s office ‘rudderless’ at a time when the Princess is also dealing with her cancer diagnosis.”
It was also revealed: “Traditionally, Royal households have been led by a ferocious private secretary, often an ex-Army officer. In the late Queen’s early reign, this role was filled by the legendary Alan ‘Tommy’ Lascelles, portrayed as a curmudgeonly enforcer in Netflix’s The Crown, and known as ‘the snake who saved the monarchy. A source tells me: ‘The Waleses need their Tommy Lascelles. The CEO appointment was meant to have been finished by now. They are rudderless without one.”
The situation is rather complex because Prince William and Middleton have two private secretaries who are supposed to work under the leadership of the CEO.
The media outlet stated: “William and Kate have two new private secretaries – Lieutenant-Colonel Tom White and former diplomat Ian Patrick – but they are still learning the ropes and were intended to report to the new CEO.”
This unexpected move from Prince William and Middleton has undoubtedly left many intrigued and a bit concerned.
