King Charles III is determined to play three-dimensional chess when it comes to keeping some aspects of his life secret and out of the hands of his son, Prince Harry.
He had a million reasons to want privacy, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle added a few extra ones to the list.
When His Majesty learned that he was ill and was eventually diagnosed with cancer, he sat down with his wife, Queen Camilla, to decide how to handle the public aspect of his health issues.
King Charles wanted to be transparent and share the truth with the British people. The Monarch was also aware that if the news reached Prince Harry or Meghan Markle before an announcement, it would be leaked in the media via an anonymous source.
Prince Harry quickly shared every detail of his conversations with his father and brother with the press.
Queen Camilla pleaded with her husband to keep his health battle private despite the risk of other family members learning the private information.
The plea was also born out of concern for how the public and other leaders would view her husband. King Charles decided to go against Queen Camilla and make an announcement to the world.
Robert Jobson, the author of Our King: Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed, said The Queen believed it was an unwise decision to make the revelation public.
Talking to The Independent, the royal expert stated: “Queen Camilla had initially been against disclosing his condition, but the King overruled her, as he felt it was a chance to take the lead, and in doing so to encourage men experiencing similar symptoms to seek timely medical attention.”
Robert Jobson hailed King Charles’s decision as a potentially life-saving one, given the increased awareness and visits to health resources.
He said: “The NHS England page on benign prostate enlargement had more than 26,000 visits in the 48 hours after the announcement, compared to a daily average of just 1,400.”
Other experts believe that King Charles’s decision to grab the bull by the head and share the news on his own terms implies that he made it impossible for Prince Harry to be able to access yet another Royal Family secret.
The King beat Prince Harry in his own game. Kate Middleton, inspired by King Charles, kept her diagnosis private despite all the noise on social media and disclosed it when she was ready and comfortable enough.
