Salma Hayek recently made headlines, no, not for her stunning bikini photos.
The Frida actress, who usually avoids talking about her personal life, opened up and shared some details about her marriage to French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault who has a net worth of $7 billion.
The 54-year-old movie star and the French businessman tied the knot back on February 14 in 2009, but the actress did not agree to marry the wealthy CEO of Kering right away.
While appearing on a podcast with Dax Shepard, Salma Hayek addressed the wild rumor that her husband is not nice just because he is super-wealthy.
Salma Hayek was told: “Can I say something about your husband, really quick? What a f—— nice, fun, generous, nice warm guy. He’s super sexy too. I’m going to be honest; I didn’t know who he was; I just heard or maybe read in a headline that you had married a really rich guy. Maybe that’s why she married him.”
She responded by: “You know the thing is that in pictures, you cannot begin to guess the magic in him. He’s made me become a much better person and grow in such a good, healthy way. And, you know, when I married him, everybody said, ‘Oh, it’s arranged marriage, she married him for the money.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, whatever, bitch. Think what you want.’ Fifteen years together, and we are strong in love. And I don’t even get offended, I’m like, ‘Yeah, whatever.'”
She continued: “We’re touching on a very interesting conversation. There is discrimination also to rich men. Immediately you think because somebody’s rich, [they] might not be a good person, might be somebody materialistic, might be somebody that doesn’t have values, might be somebody that is even stupid or that doesn’t deserve it [or] that in order to have a lot of money, you did it the wrong way, there are all these preconceptions, and I heard them, by the way.”
According to the From Dusk till Dawn star, when Pinault proposed to her, she was quite happy at the prospect of becoming his wife but had one specific requirement towards him.
Apparently, at the time, Hayek stated, “I have a system in my life that I’ve chosen, where my expenses from before the marriage are my expenses.”
However, it seems that Salma’s wish did not scare the Frenchman away because he replied to her with, “I know. That’s why I want to marry you.”
The actress explained that she and her husband got along so well because she still had her independence, and Pinault really appreciated and respected that in his wife.
Before getting married, the popular couple had already welcomed a child together, a daughter, Valentina, who was two years old when the wedding ceremony took place.
Hayek also opened up in the past about giving birth at the age of 41 and explained that she was glad for waiting so long to become a mother.
According to the movie star, she felt that she has done enough things in life and was able to appreciate the time she spent with her daughter without feeling she was missing out on something and was a lot more patient.
