Meghan Markle is embroiled in a gripping conflict, playing a double agent in her reality series. This role is fraught with tension, and its consequences are far-reaching.
Markle’s ambitions are complex. She is resolute about preserving her royal privacy while embracing reality television’s spotlight.
The two things cannot coexist if she wants to succeed. Markle shares little about her private life; Prince Harry is rarely seen on screen, and sometimes, Markle gives a glimpse of her children, showing the backs of their heads.
The former actress even opted not to use her real home on the show while constantly letting the camera roll into her backyard and showing off her gorgeous garden.
While Markle is entitled to her privacy, her cautious approach has led to a significant distance from her fans, who yearn for a more open and relatable celebrity figure.
Authenticity is a cornerstone of celebrity culture. Viewers crave genuine bonds and want to hear about their idols’ journeys, including the highs, lows, and heartbreaks.
Markle’s inability to meet these expectations has left viewers feeling not just disappointed but also let down.
The numbers are in, and a mixed picture of the show’s performance is painted. While it has garnered significant views and hours watched, it has not achieved the top rankings on Netflix’s global and national charts.
According to PEOPLE Magazine: “As of March 12, the Duchess of Sussex’s show ranked tenth on Netflix’s global Top 10 Shows Overview list. According to the streamer, With Love, Meghan has amassed 2.6 million views and 12.6 million hours watched since its debut on Tuesday, March 4. More specifically, With Love, Meghan ranks seventh on Netflix’s Top 10 Shows chart in the United Kingdom and tenth on the platform’s Top 10 list in the United States.”
Markle’s fans were delighted with the announcement of the show’s renewal for a second season.
However, the truth behind this big news is that the two seasons were filmed simultaneously, and Netflix decided to split them to pump ratings.
An insider told the Daily Mail: “I know they filmed the shows back-to-back , so in theory, there is no second season. It’s like with many Netflix shows; it is already in the bag at the same time as the first one.”
If Markle does not remove her fancy royal hat and put on her reality cap, there is little hope that With Love, Meghan will have a third season.
That also implies that Netflix might not renew her contract, something the streaming service’s bosses are already threatening. If the show’s performance does not improve, there is a real risk that Markle’s contract with Netflix might not be renewed.
A source told the Daily Mail: “Bosses at Netflix are worried. It’s not a runaway success.”
Markle might have to make some changes.
