It appears that Kate Middleton and her spouse, Prince William, may have a pattern of displacing people from their beloved homes, allowing the royal couple to enjoy a luxurious life, according to veteran royal expert and Daily Mail writer Richard Eden.
Catherine And William’s Habit Of Evicting Tenants
Appearing on the Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast, the royal correspondent shared a not-very-positive story about an incident concerning the late Queen’s tenants who were booted from the Sandringham estate.
Richard Eden Reveals He Was The One Who Broke The Bad News
Eden revealed that he was the one who telephoned one of the tenants at the Queen’s property to share the unwelcome news that they were being asked to vacate their home, Anmer Hall, to make way for Prince William and Catherine. Anmer Hall was being gifted to the royal couple by the late Queen Elizabeth II, reportedly as a belated wedding gift.
Prince William And Catherine Specifically Chose Anmer Hall
According to the journalist, the Prince and his new bride had the choice of many homes on the estate; however, they specifically picked Anmer Hall, which already had sitting tenants — James Everett, the owner of Norfolk Oak, and his family.
The lease stipulated that it could be terminated at short notice if a member of the Royal Family required the property. Therefore, there was only one way to empty it: evict those who were living there.
The writer gleefully said it was one of his favorite stories and went on to reveal: “When we got wind that um Queen Elizabeth was going to be giving a new house to William and Catherine as a I think it was a belated wedding gift. I mean, you know, other people might give their child or their grandchild, I don’t know what, some nice plates or, you know, a microwave or a toaster. Um but in the royal family, they can give houses. Nice. And um the Queen decided to give them Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate.”
The Royal Eviction Was A ‘Death Knock’ For Tenants
During the podcast, Eden explained that the tenant he spoke to was, of course, very unhappy with the news and even less thrilled to relocate. Though the Everetts ultimately moved to another property on the estate, the situation at the time was difficult.
He went on to say: “So we mean a slight problem was there was actually someone living there. So we contacted I remember ringing up the man whose family they were living at this house and we said actually we’ve heard that your house is about to be given to William and Catherine. I’ll be honest with you, he wasn’t that happy. So were you the one who delivered the news? Yes. Unfortunately, it did feel a bit like a sort of death knock, but no, but to be to be fair, you know, that’s part of the lease that you know that if they want you to move out, you have to. So, yeah, but you probably don’t want to hear that from a journalist.”
Eden continued with the following revelation: “No, I think they’d loved living in Anmer Hall, this family, but they moved to another property, and I think in the end they were perfectly happy. But it was a great story and I was delighted when it turned out to be true and they did actually move because you know come on.”
Prince William And Catherine Face Consequences For Eviction Pattern
Many are still wondering why the heir to the throne and his wife decided to put themselves into that “pickle.” King Charles has reportedly attempted to intervene in similar property matters but has obviously failed; now, Prince William and Catherine are facing the consequences of their actions, which are currently unfolding in the public controversy surrounding their move to Frogmore Cottage.
