In her celebration of the United States’ performance in the Women’s World Cup, Megan Rapinoe made a touching reference to late rapper Nipsey Hussle by quoting him in a social media update.
The soccer star specifically referenced the “Hussle and Motivate” song in a post she made on Instagram, showing her holding the Golden Ball with a huge smile on her face.
She used the quote “Ain’t really trip on the credit, I just paid all of my dues. I just respected the game, now my name all in the news. ‘Trippin’ on all of my moves, quote me on this, got a lot more to prove.”
Her post immediately gained a lot of attention and was shared multiple times all over social media.
Many commended Rapinoe for her reference, with some describing it as an actual tribute.
The player was celebrating her involvement as the best goal scorer in the competition, after a dramatic victory against the Netherlands during the final of the World Cup.
Rapinoe’s post managed to get a lot of crossover responses. Entertainers like Rihanna and Gabrielle Union showed love to the popular athlete, who still has to deal with President Donald Trump‘s supporters over her refusal to go at the White House.

A critic explained: “An embarrassment to the country really. Congrats on the win, but if you’re gonna stomp on our flag, get tf outta the US of A. If you hate this country so much, then don’t try and represent it. Nobody cares that you’re a gay SJW. Leave the politics outta this; you ruined what could’ve been such a unifying moment for the country.”
