After a woman named Harriet Osborne boarded an EasyJet plane wearing an outfit which many described as overly revealing, she was asked by flight attendants to leave the discount carrier’s aircraft.
The woman has subsequently expressed her outrage over the incident that took place on a flight from Malaga, Spain to London Stansted, claiming that she had no idea she would be treated like that for her outfit.
According to reports, she was initially given a chance to change into more appropriate clothes, but she refused.
Many passengers had reportedly complained of her clothing, calling it revealing, and pointing out that her nipples were easily visible.
The woman was wearing a top that was more or less transparent and did not hide any details.
The woman then went on to act in an aggressive manner towards flight attendants as they were asking her to change her attire.
Afterward, she had to be forcibly removed from the plane. According to a statement by EasyJet, she would likely have been allowed to remain on the plane if she had changed her behavior — but that was not happening.
The company put out the following statement on the matter: “We can confirm that a passenger traveling from Malaga to Stansted on 23 June was unable to travel due to behaving disruptively. Following concerns about her clothing crew politely requested that the customer wear an additional top for the flight which the customer agreed to. However, she then proceeded to act disruptively towards a member of our crew. Our cabin and ground crew are trained to assess all situations and to act quickly and appropriately. We do not tolerate abusive or threatening behavior towards our staff.”
After the incident, the woman has been quite active in discussing what happened, as she believes herself to be the victim in the whole situation.
Here is what she told The Sun: “The crew were horrible and made me feel cheap. This air hostess confronted me in front of the whole plane and said I wasn’t allowed on in that top. She said to me, ‘Oh no, move to the side,’ and tried to cover me up with my hands. She said, ‘You’re not coming on my plane like that — you need to put a top on.’ Then she ordered me off the plane, so of course, I put a top on.”
She added: “When I tried to get back on, she turned to the ground crew and said, ‘She’s not coming on my plane.’ I was escorted away from the aircraft. I was in shock. It was so sexist. I just burst out crying. We had to walk back through the terminal where Spanish police stopped to question us. They were baffled when I told them why we’d been kicked off.”
However, many passengers who were aboard the flight agreed with the decision to have her removed, pointing out that she was acting in a very disruptive manner and was disturbing the safety of the flight overall.
EasyJet has not offered any further comments on the situation other than to confirm that they would have allowed the woman to continue flying if she was dressed more appropriately.
Osborne has become an Internet sensation, and many have taken to social media to praise her and slam EasyJet for the way it handled things.
A similar incident involved 21-year-old Emily O’Connor occurred earlier this year, and Thomas Cook Airlines was forced to apologize after they told her to cover her crop top on a flight.
