A boy in a fishing boat got an unpleasant surprise that was captured on a dramatic video clip, showing a great white shark jumping out of the water close to the boat and almost biting the child.
The shark was identified as a great white one and was jumping around in pursuit of fish that it was chasing. The incident occurred on Cape Cod Bay off the Massachusetts coast.
Everyone on the boat was in shock when they saw the beast in front of them, and the boy explained that he had no idea what to even do in that situation.
Everything was shot on video by the boy’s dad, Doug Nelson, who was also on the boat. He seemed quite enthusiastic about having managed to capture the dramatic footage, as his exclamation can be heard on the background.
The father was not the only person excited to see the video. People on social media also had a lot to say about it.
One person explained: “U got the shot. It was perfect. Make it longer next time. Omg, they got it. Perfect timing, you guys. Makes us want to go out and fish. We have r license man. Unbelievable.”
A second commenter added: “The Great Whites have certainly brought back their numbers; they seem to be teeming with white sharks out east….”
A third fishing enthusiast explained: “I’m glad that woman did not have that fishing line wrapped around her hands as she was pulling it in.”
According to the captain of the boat, this was not even the first time something like this had happened.
There were reportedly at least four similar close calls before, although he admitted that this was probably the most dramatic example he had seen so far.
He described the scene as somewhat surreal and was glad that it all ended up fine for the people in the boat.
There have been no reports of similar cases ending in fatalities from the region, but authorities have still advised people to exercise caution when exploring the area’s waters, especially those who are new to the sea in the first place.
It is not known if any specific actions are going to be taken about the situation at this point.
Twelve great white sharks were spotted in Cape Cod Bay in June. Moreover, the beach was even forced to close after some of them were seen swimming near the bay.
