Danielle Stella, 31, a Minnesota Republican candidate for Congress; who is actively trying to challenge Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, has reportedly been arrested on shoplifting charges.
The situation is made more ironic by the fact that the politician was making constant promises to crack down on crime and be tougher on criminals.
The woman has allegedly been arrested not once, but twice just in the last year, both times on accounts of theft.
In one case, she allegedly managed to steal more than $2,300 worth of merchandise from a Target store, according to reports.
However, the woman has continuously denied the allegations, claiming that the US legal system makes her innocent until proven guilty.
She then defended herself by pointing out that she would not run for public office if she was actually guilty of crimes like that, as she understood the fact that her candidacy put her under the public spotlight.
Stella stated: “I am not guilty of these crimes. In this country, I am innocent until proven guilty, and that is the law. If I was guilty of crimes, I would never run for public office, putting myself in the public eye under a microscope to be attacked by all political sides.”
She earlier referred to Minneapolis as the “crime capital of the country.”
According to the woman, she did indeed make a trip to Target but had the full intention of making a purchase at the store.
The Trump-loving special education teacher then claims to not remember anything else due to suffering from PTSD. She added that she suffers from extreme anxiety around people, and normally has someone accompanying her on her shopping trips.
While there may be creditability to her story, many have expressed their disappointment in Stella’s actions, and have been criticizing her publicly.
Omar has so far refrained from commenting on her potential opponent’s predicament, though not many expected her to chime in, to begin with.
The left-leaning firebrand might be busy dealing with a more urgent situation. The Daily Mail has reported this week that she might be getting a divorce from her second husband, Ahmed Hirsi, the father of her three children.
Omar and Hirsi are reportedly separated, and when he was asked about the matter, he simply responded: “Wow. I can’t comment on that. I’m sorry, I just can’t say anything.”
Despite the political controversies and personal drama, Omar is still favored to retain her seat when it comes to Minnesota 5th District.
