A group of home invaders in Lithia, Florida found out the hard way that they had picked the wrong place to rob after a pregnant woman opened fire on them with an AR-15, killing one.
The attackers initially focused on the woman’s husband, Jeremy King, hitting him with their pistols and bringing him to the ground. They also went after the couple’s daughter.
They allowed the pregnant woman to retreat to a different room of the home, where she quickly armed herself and set her sights on the door.
The hubby stated: “They came in heavily hooded and masked. As soon as they had got the back door opened, they had a pistol on me and was grabbing my 11-year-old daughter.”
He added: “When he came toward the back door in her line of sight, she clipped him. He made it from my back door to roughly 200 feet out in the front ditch before the AR did its thing.”
King also revealed: “I’ve got a fractured eye socket, a fractured sinus cavity, a concussion, 20 stitches and three staples in my head. Them guys came in with two normal pistols, and my AR stopped it. [My wife] evened the playing field and kept them from killing me.”
It did not take long for one of the attackers to come looking for her, only to be met by a hail of bullets.
His partner immediately fled the scene and is still on the loose, according to official reports.
The unlucky thief, who got shot, managed to crawl nearly 200 feet out of the home’s back door, but he eventually succumbed to his wounds and was found dead in a nearby ditch by responding officers.
The woman and her husband do not seem fearful of a possible reprisal, judging by their comments on the situation, and they have stood by their decision to kill the intruder.
Reports have noted that both attackers came in masked and armed with firearms, and were out to do a lot of damage, judging by their aggressive initial approach.
Authorities have urged anyone with more information about the escaped attacker to come forward. However, they have also warned people not to approach him directly, as he is believed to be still armed and extremely dangerous.
The local community is reportedly on high alert following the botched invasion.
