When Leah Remini decided to leave the Church of Scientology more than half a decade ago dramatically, many of her fans were worried about her future.
Her life was under a scrutny for several years later, as some of her supporters were concerned about how she would adapt after ending something that had been such a significant part of her life until then.
Others wondered if the controversial church would retaliate. Recently, Remini has decided to open up a bit about what was happening behind the scenes, and why she took the drastic decision.
According to her, it was all about her daughter, Sofia Bella Pagan, as the actress wanted to be able to fully dedicate herself to taking care of her.
She stated: “In my house, it’s family first, but I was spending most of my time at the church. So, I was saying ‘family first,’ but I wasn’t showing that. I didn’t like the message that sent my daughter.”
However, that was difficult at the time when she was a member of the Church of Scientology for reasons that she did not want to go into detail about, so she eventually decided to move on with her life.
It looks like Remini has been doing a fantastic job taking care of her daughter, and things are going well on that front. The teen and her mother are very close since she exited the church.
To completely erase Sofia’s connection to the organization, she took part in a traditional baptism in the Catholic Church.
The two have been relatively short on their public appearances, though this could easily be explained by Remini’s desire to keep her daughter away from the spotlight.
Remini has become one of the most famous ex-Scientologist whistleblowers in the world. She often exposes the organization and its members for their beliefs and scandalous actions.
However, it all comes at a price. It was not that long ago, Remini revealed that she lost her estranged father, George Remini, to the Church of Scientology.
She slammed the church for taking her father and using him as a “pawn” against her. She wrote: “Scientology took my dad in as a pawn against me and likely robbed him of any last ounce of heart that might have been left in him. I’m angry that Scientology found his personal weak spots and got him on board not with their beliefs but with their smear campaign against me.. I’m angry that Scientology dictated the last chapter in our relationship.”
Although she has won awards in her fight against Scientology, she also said that she has not profited from the situation. Instead, she has been losing money.
