Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s shocking departure from England has some dire consequences for the entire royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II.
In early 2020, Harry and the former actress stepped down from their royal duties and moved to California with their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The Duke of Sussex wanted to have a normal life and become financially independent. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Harry were able to do so with paid speeches, and they signed a massive deal with Netflix to produce movies and documentaries.
While the Sussexes have been able to thrive financially despite the ongoing pandemic, the royal family took a hit and is expected to keep losing money for the foreseeable future.
It has been confirmed that the British Royal Family will lose about £35 million ($44.5 million) because of the health crisis.
Michael Stevens, the keeper of the privy purse, the man who manages the royal family’s finances, explained that the loss of income is due to the lack of visitors to royal buildings.
Buckingham Palace is trying to save money via a staff pay freeze and halt to hiring. Graham Smith, the CEO of Republic, believes that the monarchy’s dwindling income is because they lost their best assets — Meghan and Harry.
Smith, who wants the monarchy to be abolished, said: “I think the monarchy has a difficult decade ahead. They have lost three of their lead stars at the beginning of the year, Andrew has stepped back and will never come back to the front line.”
Smith stated that Kate Middleton and Prince William are not enough to revive the Monarchy and added: “Meghan and Harry have left, the Queen is withdrawing more and more due to her age, and she is likely to die before the end of the decade. That you are left with is the only recognizable royals as Charles, William and Kate.”
He continued by saying: “Charles does not have the same warmth and support that others have and quite frankly William and Kate are rather dull uninspiring individuals that will always play second-fiddle to the next monarch. It is all going to take a lot of shine off the Monarchy and raise questions on why we have to put up with it. The line-up of royals that we have been used to for so many years is dwindling fast.”
He concluded by: “Charles is obviously mentioned but not Camilla, who has, in a low key way, done remarkably well and worked hard for a number of charities. It is bizarre that the Princess Royal, who is usually the royal who carries out the most engagements, is omitted too. The Earl and Countess of Wessex also do extremely valuable work.”
Some observers still believe that the Queen can fix the problem.
