Middleton, who was once like the sister that Prince Harry never had, suffered a health blow last week. The mother of three underwent abdominal surgery and will be in the London Clinic in Marylebone for a total of 14 days.
She will remain in bed until April or May to recuperate. Kensington Palace is hopeful that she will return to her royal duties in the spring.
King Charles has been admitted to the same hospital as Middleton in London for surgery due to an enlarged prostate. His Majesty will be out of action for many months.
While the royals battle these ordeals, Prince Harry and Markle flew to Jamaica for a movie premiere. Prince Harry did a brief interview on the red carpet to reveal where his head and heart are — he made brutally clear that they were not in England.
The former soldier said he “had to be here” while on the red carpet, mingling with the stars of the movie and the prime minister of Jamaica.
The statement makes it clear that Prince Harry is not looking behind, even if illness is involved. It comes on the heels of a remark from a royal commentator who explained that Prince Harry will make extraordinary efforts to avoid commenting on the health dramas facing the monarchy.
Royal commentator Lady Colin Campbell told GB News: “All they needed to do was make some public declarations. But they are not going to; they can exploit every situation as long as they don’t make a public declaration. The whole thing stinks to high heaven.”
Phil Dampier, another royal expert, chimed in: “If they had made a public declaration, there would be a certain sympathy for them. There might have been private contact. I’m sure they are worried. They haven’t made anything public, and I think that is the contrast; they are enjoying themselves and probably went to the premiere via private jet. It does look like they are swanning about and enjoying themselves when there is real concern for many members of the Royal Family.”
