According to a royal biographer, Prince Harry may feel “regretful” about the interview he and Meghan Markle had with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year.
Duncan Larcombe spent ten years as a royal editor and authored Prince Harry’s biography, The Inside Story, about the Duke of Sussex.
And now he has speculated about how Prince Harry might be feeling after landing back in California following the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip, in London last month.
The royal expert also explained that Prince Harry’s conflicted emotions might spell trouble for Meghan Markle in the future.
Larcombe spent time with Prince Harry more than ten years ago, which had included attending a party for the Duke of Sussex’s cousin, Peter Phillips, Princess Anne‘s son.
He said Prince Harry could be “hurt and angry” about how Meghan Markle was treated by the royal family and could have used their interview with Oprah Winfrey as a way of “getting it out.”
The royal biographer spoke of the time he attended Peter Phillips’s stag party in 2008 and was invited by Prince William to join other royals and guests for a drink in the beer garden.
Larcombe — who was at the event following an agreement from the brothers — said Prince Harry was “livid” and thought he had secretly made his way to join them, which resulted in the two men “having a row.”
However, once William explained the situation to his brother, Harry “calmed down and apologized,” and they “had a beer” together.
Larcombe speculated that a similar thing could have happened with the Oprah interview. For the first time, Prince Harry saw his family since the interview while attending the funeral of Prince Philip in April.
He reportedly received a “frosty” reception, and Larcombe thinks he would have traveled back to the US feeling “embarrassed, regretful, and awkward.”
The expert stated: “Harry was clearly hurt and angry about Meghan’s experience with the royals – and used the interview to get it out. But after returning home, I’ve no doubt he’s been feeling embarrassed, regretful, and awkward. He’s now facing the consequences. I believe he’ll regret that interview – and maybe his decision to leave the Royal Family.”
Duncan explained that Prince Harry felt “numb” on the flight returning to California and has been battling “mixed emotions” after spending time with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, and Prince William, and other royal family members at Prince Philip’s funeral.
The royal expert went on to reveal that the private moments that Prince Harry spent with his family reminded him of “everything he’s sacrificed” in recent years and made him feel “nostalgic” for his old life.
Furthermore, he believes that Prince Harry will struggle in the future to “live harmoniously” between the two worlds of LA life and the British royal family.
Duncan concluded by: “He’s in for a very difficult ride. There could be tough times ahead.”
Harry said during the interview with Oprah he felt freer after leaving the royal family.
