It has been revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are displeased that Queen Elizabeth II did not heed the complaints that they voiced during their controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During their jaw-dropping conversation with Winfrey, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confessed that they had to endure offending racist remarks from members of the British royal family.
Meghan Markle explained that while she was still pregnant with her firstborn, Archie, an unnamed royal asked Prince Harry if the child would be born with dark skin and what that would imply.
In addition, Meghan Markle claimed that being a senior royal was so stressful that at one point, she even considered taking her life because nobody would help her.
Buckingham Palace issued this statement at the time: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
However, according to Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, authors of Finding Freedom and close confidants of the Sussexes, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were disappointed that their claims were not taken seriously by the Palace.
Apparently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not happy with the response from Buckingham Palace, which stated that even though “some recollections may vary,” the family would still address the issues concerning racism in private.
The authors shared: “The Queen’s ‘recollections may vary’ comment ‘did not go unnoticed by the couple, who a close source said was ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken. ‘Months later, and little accountability has been taken,’ a pal of Meghan added. ‘How can you move forward with that?”
As a result, some close friends of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were reportedly infuriated that no accountability or measures were taken despite the time that has passed since the bombshell interview.
A royal source told the authors: “There is a feeling that if it’s ignored, it will go away, but surely by now they should have learned that that never happens?”
Meanwhile, Omid Scobie also explained that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were expecting to have quite a hectic schedule during the upcoming months, as the couple wanted to further develop their charity organization — Archewell Foundation.
Scobie, who wrote the book alongside Carolyn Durand, told PEOPLE magazine today: “They’re a couple who do very well in those moments of human interaction. They need to be on the ground. They say that the proof is in the pudding, and what we are about to see is that pudding.”
Queen Elizabeth does not seem to care about the controversies.
