Gisele Bündchen has revealed that her most recent walk with her dog turned into a rescue mission.
Taking to Instagram, the Brazilian supermodel shared a video that melted hearts and angered animal lovers who are reminded once more that man-made pollution is destroying the earth’s precious wildlife.
Speaking Portuguese, Tom Bardy’s wife explained that she takes a long walk on the beach with her dog, Onyx, every morning.
However, recently, as she was enjoying her stroll, she noticed something strange — she discovered a giant sea turtle being strangled to death while entangled in a large fishing net.
Gisele Bündchen lept into action to save the creature’s life with the camera rolling. The businesswoman squatted down and gently freed the animal from its demise.
However, it seems that the turtle was disoriented and weak after being caught for a lengthy period upside down while trapped inside a fishing net.
The poor animal could not walk back to the ocean, leaving Gisele Bündchen no choice but to pick it up and carry it back into the water.
The clip ended with the influencer struggling to carry the massive turtle.
Experts say that an adult sea turtle weighs between 240 and 420 pounds. Gisele Bündchen penned a lengthy message to share more details about her unexpected rescue mission.
She revealed: “Early this morning, I was walking on the beach, and Onyx started barking at a pile of ocean trash that had washed during high tide. When I came closer, I saw this beautiful turtle turned upside down with a look of hopelessness and exhaustion in her eyes, her body knotted and entangled in a fishing net.”
She continued: “Life is a series of opportunities that appear daily, and we choose what to do with them. Today was no different. Early this morning, I was walking on the beach, and Onyx started barking at a pile of ocean trash that had washed during high tide. When I came closer, I saw this beautiful turtle turned upside down with a look of hopelessness and exhaustion in her eyes, her body knotted and entangled in a fishing net.”
She went on to say: “I immediately started to free her from the net that was strangling her, but even after we got her untied, she was too tired to make her way back to the ocean. I didn’t think twice; I just picked her up and carry her to the water. (amazing how adrenaline can make you stronger!) I felt relieved and so happy to see her swim away freely, grateful that I was there and able to help.”
She concluded by: “But there are so many other animals that unfortunately end up dying on nets like this. Today I was reminded that we must become more aware of our ways as a species and help protect all animals; it’s our choice. I pray that we can all rise and remember that the opportunity to change begins with a single act ?.”
Nearly all sea turtle species are classified as endangered because humans often kill them for their eggs, meat, skin, and shells.
It is estimated that more than 1,000 turtles die every year after getting entangled in plastic.
