Not long ago, King Charles III was calling the shots and deciding who could and could not attend Queen Elizabeth II‘s funeral.
The King frustrated former President Donald Trump by snubbing him along with Barack Obama and other high-profile politicians.
Trump shared moving statements and did an interview praising Queen Elizabeth’s work during the 70 years she was Monarch.
The de facto leader of the Republican party also had kind words for King Charles, who is beginning his reign.
He also issued a statement via The Daily Beast explaining why King Charles and Buckingham Palace should have made an exception and allowed President Joe Biden to have a delegation so he could attend.
All of Trump’s pleas were ignored by King Charles. Weeks later, King Charles finds himself in the same humiliating situation as Trump.
The newly proclaimed Sovereign was delighted to break into the political world by attending the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) held from 6 to November 18 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
King Charles had plans to deliver a big speech at the event. However, England’s new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, has shown the world who is in charge while simultaneously reminding the King that the Monarchy does not meddle in politics.
Truss, who might prefer Queen Elizabeth‘s mantra of keeping the royal family apolitical, has advised King Charles not to attend the Cop27 climate conference.
A senior royal confirmed to The Times that the King was indeed prevented from appearing at the conference by Truss.
The source told the British media outlet: “It is no mystery that the King was invited to go there. He had to think very carefully about what steps to take for his first overseas tour, and he is not going to be attending Cop.”
The source went on to explain that King Charles will still find a way to make his presence felt at the summit, according to Express.
The royal insider added the following about the rebel king: “Just because he is not in physical attendance, that doesn’t mean His Majesty won’t find other ways to support it.”
The source defended King Charles’s decision to try to bypass Truss’s advice by pointing out that in 2021, Queen Elizabeth gave a speech at the Cop26 last year.
The source added: “The Queen gave an entirely non-political address at Cop last year…it sounds like he is not being given the choice. That is an error of judgment on the part of the Government. The King could absolutely go and deliver the Government’s message and give it credibility, given all the kudos he has in that space.”
Last year, King Charles also addressed the Cop26, where he called on leaders to step up and “get down to work” tackling the issue of climate change.
He said: “I can only urge you, as the world’s decision-makers, to find practical ways of overcoming differences so we can all get down to work, together, to rescue this precious planet and save the threatened future of our young people.”
Many British citizens have taken to social media to applaud the Prime Minister’s decision to stop King Charles from appearing at the summit because he is not a politician and should not behave as one.
