Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have pushed for a while the narrative that they were two victims of the British monarchy. During a few interviews, they painted a dark picture of the Royal Family.
The power couple said that when they needed help, no one answered their calls. They blamed the neglect for what happened in 2020 with “Megxit.”
However, a new book titled Courtiers: the Hidden Power Behind the Crown from royal expert Valentine Low claims Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did some damage of their own.
The author says that the couple treated staff poorly before leaving the monarchy for an independent life filled with big contracts. The renegade royals reportedly kept many employees on the edge of a mental breakdown.
The revelations are extensive and build on years of rumors about alleged harsh behavior from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Low, a Times royal correspondent, goes as far as saying that the father of two developed paranoid tendencies when in The Palace.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain this week, the media personality talked about the bullying rumors that have hit the renegade royals.
Low revealed: “I think it was a very difficult experience for some of them. As I revealed last year, there were allegations that Meghan bullied staff. People talked to me of people being completely destroyed. I’ve heard people at the time, faced with a possible encounter with Meghan, were saying things like ‘I feel sick’ or ‘I’m shaking’ – extraordinary things for an employee to say about the prospect of seeing their employer in half-an-hour.”
He also claimed that the staff contributed to “Megxit” to some extent. Low elaborated: “There is a way in which the courtiers are to blame. So the people around them were doing their best, these were people who believed in Harry and Meghan, and they wanted to help.”
The writer went on to say: “But there were signs early on, in the first year or so of their marriage, there were signs of how unhappy Harry and Meghan were. And no one really did anything about that. No one picked it up, no one flagged it up, and there were no big discussions with the most senior courtiers in the institution.”
Low brought some clarity to what led to the couple’s exit from royal life. He continued: “(Because) what Harry and Meghan wanted and what the Royal family, what the Queen felt able to give, I don’t think there was ever a meeting point. This was brewing for a long time – before Meghan. Harry had this obsession with the media. He was so very unhappy.”
While the book is not necessarily great news for the Sussexes, it clearly makes the case that “Megxit” was inevitable. Queen Elizabeth II and no other person could have changed it.
