Many predicted that the hammer would come down on Prince Harry for his past actions, interviews, and the upcoming tell-all book Spare, but it seems that King Charles III has other plans in mind.
King Charles believed that he would carry his carefree ways into his reign and was proven wrong by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Weeks after Queen Elizabeth II‘s funeral, Prince Harry and his wife returned to California and continued their businesses.
Markle jumped back into her Spotify podcast and did a conciliatory interview with Variety. The couple appeared to have completed their docuseries for Netflix.
As for Prince Harry, he announced that his book would be called Spare and would be out on January 10. The description of the book all but confirms that Prince Harry will cause pain and damage to King Charles’s reign and the monarchy.
King Charles had the possibility to hit back at his youngest son and inflect great humiliation — but he chose not to.
His Majesty had the power to strip Prince Harry and Prince Andrew of the prestigious roles of Counselors of State.
Counselors of State replace the King if he is ill, incapacitated, or out of the country.
King Charles made the surprising move to quieten him and not humiliate him further. King Charles has opted to expand his pool of advisors.
A Palace source told The Mirror: “No one will be excluded. The pool of Counselors of State will be expanded, and this is for purely practical reasons. As the King and Queen Consort are likely to be away, as could the Prince and Princess of Wales, it is only right this is attended to.”
The insider added that a formal process would be necessary and launched in the upcoming weeks to get it done. It should be “completed before the King’s first overseas trip at the beginning of next year.”
Another source told the British media outlet that King Charles had decided “with the knowledge of his late mother some months ago, to spare the blushes of Harry and Andrew.”
Dr. Craig Prescott, a constitutional expert at Bangor University, told The Mirror that the changes King Charles would implement would be the “simplest way of dealing with the problem.”
He added: “It makes perfect sense. It deals with the present problem in that there are not enough working royals to act as Counselors of State. This is the simplest way of dealing with the problem.”
He also shared: “In that, the legislation could specifically make Prince Edward and Princess Anne Counselors of State, adding to those who are already there. Adding the Princess of Wales is unprecedented, but this also makes sense. As two counselors of State need to act together, it follows that the Prince and Princess of Wales could act together. Overall, this is the simplest way of solving the problem, and the legislation should pass through Parliament without too much difficulty.”
The Duke of Sussex is a real challenge for the new Sovereign.
