However, the 3-day visit was derailed by a few hiccups and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s mega plans to conquer the entertainment industry.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex put out a teaser for their Netflix documentary as the Prince and Princess of Wales were landing in the US.
Royal insiders were livid and saw the move as a “declaration of war.” The trailer for Harry & Meghan went viral and overshadowed the US visit.
The development made a bad situation worse because the Royal Family was also dealing with a race-related scandal involving Prince William’s godmother, Lady Susan Hussey.
On Monday, the Sussexes expanded on their attacks on the British monarchy with the second teaser for the docu-series, which will premiere on December 8.
This time around, accusations of racism were more present. Moreover, Prince Harry also spends a lot of time pointing out what is wrong with the institution.
Unless the teasers are part of the biggest head fake in recent history, the documentary will not spare the Royal Family. While the Sussexes will probably avoid dropping individual names, they seem to have issues with the system as a whole.
The power couple is telling the world that the monarchy is a dysfunctional and antiquated system that needs a complete overhaul.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to be daring King Charles III and Prince William to do something meaningful about what they are doing.
While some insiders say they plan to reach out next year after the tell-all book Spare is published, the teasers appear to leave no room for compromise.
Moreover, the Sussexes are constantly wrapping themselves and their activities in the mythology of Princess Diana, as if they are on a mission to right all the wrongs that were done to her.
It is pretty clear that all of this is not a recipe for reconciliation. This might be off the table for years to come.
Royal author Richard Fitzwilliams told The Daily Mail: “I think this will widen the rift between the brothers. There is no doubt that this Netflix series is an amazing act of revenge designed to weaken the very institution that William will inherit as future King. Of course, everyone will be asking how King Charles will react to this in the short term, but the effects of this will be felt in years to come. That’s the whole point.”
He continued: “This is a full frontal, extremely destructive attack on the Royal Family – the institution as well as individual households and members of those households. This series, I suspect, will greatly weaken the royals in the eyes of the world, especially among young people.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have put some of their cards on the table. It is up to King Charles and Prince William to now show their hands.
