The ongoing war between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie seems to be endless. The pair had the Hollywood dream romance for over two decades.
However, in 2016, an explosive fight onboard a private jet involving Jolie, Pitt, and several of their teen children ended the marriage.
Since then, it has been a bloodbath in court and in the public sphere. When the former couple is not attacking each other over the custody of their six children, they are going at it for assets and money — enormous sums of money.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were in court last week to argue over the sale of Chateau Miraval — their wine dream that turned into a drunken nightmare.
The former couple purchased Chateau Miraval in 2008 for 25 million euros. In 2021, Jolie sold her 50% stake in Miraval to Tenute del Mondo.
Pitt slammed Jolie for the move and claimed the sale blindsided him. The Plan B founder, who wanted to buy his wife’s shares, dragged her to court on the basis that they had a contract not to sell the chateau without the other’s consent and approval of the new owner.
In court, Pitt’s lawyers argued Jolie sold the successful winery with “the intent to willfully inflict harm by entering into the sale with a total stranger.”
Via his attorneys, Pitt slammed Jolie for violating their agreement by saying: “Pitt’s allegations that he and Ms. Jolie had a secret, unwritten, unspoken contract to a consent right on the sale of their interests in the property is directly contrary to the written record and, among other legal defects, violative of the Statute of Frauds and public policy.”
The court documents showed that Jolie was not taking the accusations lying down. The humanitarian had some harsh words for her former spouse.
Jolie said the Oscar-winning actor’s claims were “frivolous, malicious, and part of a problematic pattern.” The private court battle over the Chateau Miraval Winery became very public recently because of a private and emotional email that Jolie wrote to Pitt explaining her heartbreaking decision to part ways with the business/family home.
The email read in part: “It is the place we brought the twins home to and where we were married over a plaque in my mother’s memory. Even now, it is impossible to write this without crying. I will treasure my memories of what it was a decade ago,” she continued. Jolie said, “But it is also the place that marks the beginning of the end of our family – and a business that is centered around alcohol.”
It is hard to predict which side is going to prevail.
