Many supporters of the Royal Family are watching and looking for clues to see how King Charles III plans to handle the controversies surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex keep raising the bar for the new Sovereign. They brought up some new accusations against the British monarchy and the heir to the throne, Prince William.
Observers thought the revelations would open the door for King Charles to strike back in a meaningful way. However, The King chose a very different path.
He is betting on reconciliation, at least publicly. This response is efficient because it makes it harder for the Sussexes to portray themselves as victims when the olive branch is public.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not lost their titles and have been invited to the coronation of King Charles on May 6, 2023. It seems after months of weighing the different options; he has settled on taking the high road.
The six episodes of the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan were met with a dignified silence from the Royal Family.
The monarchy is expected to continue the same strategy when the renegade royal releases his tell-all memoir Spare on January 10.
Insiders say that King Charles does not have any upside by going in the mud with the power couple. That is why it makes sense to invite the duo to the coronation.
One source told The Daily Mail: “Harry is his son, and His Majesty will always love him. While things are difficult at the moment, the door will always be left ajar.”
A second insider shared: “I know conversations have been had around them attending the Coronation, and while there are a lot of potential pitfalls between now and then, I can’t see His Majesty‘s attitude to this changing.”
The King is putting the pair in an awkward position, forcing them to turn down the offer. A source explained: “It would be utterly hypocritical but then again not entirely unsurprising if they did, let’s just say,”
The Sussexes did not turn down the idea; however, they want their own apology. The pair watched the public reconciliation of Prince William’s godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, and a Black charity owner Ngozi Fulani.
Hussey was in the middle of a race row for asking Fulani several times about her country of origin. To calm things down, the monarchy pushed for a public apology. Now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want the same thing.
One insider told The Sunday Times: “Nothing like that was ever done when Harry and Meghan raised various concerns — no meeting, formal apology or taking responsibility or accountability. That is hard to swallow — 100 percent yes, they’d like to have a meeting.”
The couple wants a meeting before the coronation. The Royal Family is not closing the door on this opportunity to close the chapter.
An insider replied: “If they want to get in touch with the King, they know where he lives.”
Observers say a peace summit would be a huge win for the two sides because the public has had enough of the hostile atmosphere.
