Former President Donald Trump was recently snubbed in a very public manner and did not hesitate to destroy the well-known organization.
The Club for Growth held a lavish retreat for their biggest donors. The Club for Growth, founded in 1999 by a group of billionaires, is a conservative organization that is focused on tax cuts and other economic policy issues.
This month, the president of the Club for Growth invited all top Republicans to the event in Trump’s residential state — Florida.
The list of invites included several politicians who will be challenging Trump for the nomination during the GOP primary.
Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley who announced her candidacy, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who has revealed that he is eying the White House were present.
Former Vice President Mike Pence, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis all have strong desires to become the next president of the United States and were all attendees of the meeting.
The real estate billionaire, who was the first to announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, was left out as the Republican Party makes room for less controversial figures who adhere to conservative values.
The Club’s president, David McIntosh, confirmed that Trump did not make the cut and added: “We’ve invited all of the folks listed here. Not Trump. But we’ve invited the others.”
Trump was frustrated that he was not invited and made sure the organization felt his wrath.
Via his Truth Social account, Trump wrote: “The Club For NO Growth, an assemblage of political misfits, globalists, and losers, fought me incessantly and rather viciously during my presidential run in 2016. They said I couldn’t win, I did, and won even bigger in 2020, with millions of more votes than ’16, but the Election was Rigged & Stollen.”
He added: “They asked to get together on Endorsements of candidates, we did, and had MANY WINS & NO losses. The relationship broke up over my Endorsement of certain great people in Alabama & Ohio. I won them all!”
Trump and Club for Growth have always had a very thorny relationship. In 2016 after Trump launched his daring and out-of-this-world presidential campaign, the Club delivered a public slap to the media mogul by endorsing Ted Cruz for president.
The group had never previously endorsed in a presidential race. McIntosh explained why he broke the rules by saying: “This year is different because there is a vast gulf between the two leading Republican candidates on matters of economic liberty. Their records make clear that Ted Cruz is a consistent conservative who will fight to shrink the federal footprint, while Donald Trump would seek to remake the government in his desired image.”
Trump is facing early opposition this time around.
