More and more details about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wild car chase in the busy streets of New York have emerged.
Some of the information better explains the scary situation for the royal couple. However, other revelations from law enforcement officials put Prince Harry and Markle in an unflattering spot.
A law enforcer spoke to Page Six to reveal that an embarrassing phone call to a New York luxury hotel is one of the main reasons why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex found themself in this bizarre predicament.
According to the police source, before Prince Harry and Markle traveled to New York to attend the Ms. Foundation 2023 Women of Vision Awards, they called the historic and luxurious Carlyle hotel.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex allegedly demanded Carlyle give them a significant discount on a room (or several rooms because the duo was accompanied by Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland.)
Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, often stayed at the Carlyle when she traveled to New York.
According to law enforcement sources, despite their best efforts, the bosses at the Carlyle declined to give Prince Harry and Markle a hefty discount.
Prince Harry, disappointed and frustrated, decided to stay at the home of a rich friend’s house on the Upper East Side.
It is claimed Prince Harry, his wife, and mother-in-law did not want the “aggressive group of paparazzi” following them after the award ceremony to know the address of the wealthy’s pal’s home.
The police source shared: “Harry and Meghan’s people called Carlyle ahead of the trip and asked for a discounted room, and the hotel said no. If they had just paid up and got a hotel in the first place, this supposed ‘dangerous’ paparazzi chase around town would never have happened. They would have been driven back to the Carlyle, been photographed going inside, and that would have been the end of it.”
The New York City law enforcement source went on to call Prince Harry and Markle cheap. The person also claimed they put lives at risk in their attempt to save money.
The source shared: “They should have just gotten a hotel for the safety of everyone. Instead, they were cheap and wanted a free place to stay. Harry and Meghan put regular people’s lives at risk because they are cheap.”
The law enforcer berated Prince Harry and Markle by saying they should know that they will be photographed and take serious measures to prevent a similar situation in the future.
The person concluded by: “They should just accept that people are going to take photos of them, photographers are going to follow them — this is New York — and they have to take intelligent steps to ensure their own security for the safety of themselves and everyone else.”
Prince Harry and Markle are said to be upset by the incident. The pair is frustrated that some are victim-blaming them for the chase.
