A fury of articles released after King Charles III‘s first coronation painted him in a negative light.
The British media claimed that King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, looked their age, tired, bored, and had little charisma.
Many suggested that the best option would be for King Charles to do what his mother was unwilling to do — abdicate and turn over the reign to Prince William, who, with the help of his glamorous wife, Kate Middleton, would help revive the deflating monarchy.
These headlines led to a quiet power struggle between the two houses. Prince William loudly let the world know they are now “very much senior royals” and they are the captains of their decisions, not King Charles.
Kate Middleton demonstrated who is the boss by making an announced appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show minutes after King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived.
After Middleton stole the headlines, King Charles huffed and stumped his frustrated feet via his associates, who told the Daily Beast: “Charles is unlikely to be amused. Gardens are very much his thing, and given that it was always his mother’s big pre-Trooping the Color day out, I think he has a right to be annoyed.”
Immediately, Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Prince William hit back via their close friend, who spoke to the Daily Beast and explained that they are more or less equals to the King and his wife.
The friend stated: “William and Kate are now very senior figures as the coronation made clear. Charles wouldn’t have needed the queen’s permission to attend the Chelsea Flower Show, and Kate doesn’t need Charles’ permission to go to the Chelsea Flower Show.”
King Charles has decided to quietly end the drama with Waleses in the most unexpected way.
During King Charles’s second coronation ceremony in Scotland, many noticed that he stepped back from the spotlight and let Prince William and his spouse be front and center.
According to a royal expert, it was intentional, His Majesty has decided that he is maybe too tired and his approval ratings are too low for this tit-for-tat and has given in to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s demands.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl, from Vanity Fair, explained King Charles’s unexpected move: “While the coronation focused on the crowning of the king and the queen, this was a moment to project the future of the monarchy to Scotland. The Waleses shared the center stage and this was very deliberate.”
King Charles is mulling the idea of the reign of King William and Queen Catherine: “Queen Elizabeth II took William to Scotland on various occasions during her reign because she wanted William to have a connection to the country she held dear, and the King is doing the same. This appeared to be a more relaxed ceremony for Charles, who shared the spotlight almost evenly with Camilla, William, and Kate.”
However, King Charles and his wife behaved like two wealthy senior citizens at some point.
She added: “He did appear to fuss and fret over Camilla this time, though, and when he did drop the smile and adopt a wary frown with his signature steepled brows, it was when he was turning back in concern to see her get safely in and out of their car or to move to her seat, which was when he also used some of the rapid hand-flicking gestures that tend to signal royal impatience.”
She went on to share: “His concern seemed justified as Camilla did appear nervous. Unlike Kate, she lacked the ability to perform a pose of stillness during the service and her constant patting of her hair or the white plume of her hat were self-checking rituals that hinted at ongoing inner anxiety.”
Another way to see it could be that His Majesty is thinking about the future. He has decided to sacrifice his love of the limelight for the good of the monarchy.
