Prince William paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II while ignoring her biggest concerns.
The heir to the throne and his wife, Kate Middleton, opted to attend a brief church service to pay homage to her late Majesty.
The Prince and Princess of Wales took the surprising decision to travel to St. David’s Cathedral in Pembrokeshire, Wales, by helicopter.
It was an unwise choice for many reasons. It was a foggy day, which made it a dangerous situation. According to a report that surfaced in the Daily Mail, it was revealed that the helicopter could not fly because of the bad weather.
The pilot concluded it was best to wait for more sunshine before taking off. The travel delay led to the pair arriving one hour late to the church service, which lasted a total of 10 minutes.
The Daily Mail had this to say about the couple’s late arrival: “Crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of their arrival on the grounds of the cathedral from dawn, but they had to wait in the sunshine after fog nearby meant the couple’s helicopter had to be rerouted and their arrival delayed by more than an hour. William and Kate had been due to arrive at 12.25 pm, but eventually turned up around 1.30 pm and greeted well-wishers before walking inside for the ten-minute service. One well-wisher could be heard shouting towards William: ‘You’re doing a great job!”
The site went on to share more details about the mini-church service: “During the service, the Very Revd Dr. Sarah Rowland Jones, Dean of St Davids, said: ‘It is particularly poignant to welcome you here, Your Royal Highnesses, on Accession Day, the first anniversary of the death of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She came here four times: the only monarch to sit in the Sovereign’s stall, the seat of a Chapter member who came into the possession of the Crown at the Reformation. Today countless numbers will be remembering her with both sadness and with great affection, giving thanks again for her long life of dedicated service – as we do here.”
The story of Prince William traveling via helicopter with his wife to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth has left some royal watchers scratching their heads in disbelief.
How can Prince William defy one of Queen Elizabeth II’s wishes on the anniversary of her passing? While alive, the Queen was adamant that she did not want Prince William and his family flying via helicopter.
Queen Elizabeth was beyond concerned about the heir to the throne, who flew via helicopter as often as possible, even for short distances.
The Queen, who lost a pilot during the December 1967 crash, was petrified that tragedy could strike, leaving the monarchy in limbo.
The Daily Mail revealed in 2021 that Queen Elizabeth was having sleepless nights over Prince William’s passion or obsession with helicopters.
The media outlet claimed the late Monarch even scolded her grandson for disobeying her orders.
Royal expert Richard Eden revealed at the time: “When it was disclosed last week that the Queen was having ‘sleepless nights’ over Prince William flying his wife and their children around in a helicopter, there was bemusement as to why she had become so worried.”
This is why the Queen was against the prince’s fascination with helicopters: “Now, however, a source close to the monarch has revealed the secret reason for her fear: she’s still haunted by a helicopter accident that killed the Captain of the Queen’s Flight and three others. It put her off completely,’ the source tells me. ‘That’s why she’s so worried about William and his family.”
He went on to say: “The source says the Queen, who is at Windsor Castle, will be ‘having words’ with the Duke of Cambridge when he returns from Norfolk.”
Prince William is doing things his own way.
