King Charles III offers his youngest son a rare opportunity to clear up a messy statement he recently released.
In early May, without his wife, Meghan Markle; Prince Harry flew to England for a special event commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.
Before boarding the plane from California, Prince Harry rattled his father with an official statement. The Duke of Sussex claimed that he could not see His Majesty because of his full program.
Prince Harry’s representative said: “It unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The Duke of course understands his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
It was later revealed that King Charles was seething with anger over the nature of the statement, a reaction that was not unexpected given the circumstances.
The statement, seen as a public rebuke, deeply hurt The King. Insiders from Buckingham Palace said The King wanted to see his son and offered him a royal apartment so the face-to-face could occur, but Prince Harry declined due to security concerns.
This week, King Charles announced that the Royal Family would suspend all activities, engagements, and meetings to avoid interfering and diverting attention from the election announced by the U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Sunak has called an early parliamentary election for July 4. A statement from King Charles and Queen Camilla read: “Following the Prime Minister’s statement this afternoon calling a general election, the royal family will – in accordance with the normal procedure – postpone engagements that may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign. Their Majesties send their sincere apologies to any of those who may be affected as a result.”
It is as if The King is extending an open invitation to Prince Harry, saying, “My program just opened up, and I am free; come and see me.”
The magnitude of this offer adds a layer of intrigue to the situation, leaving royal watchers wondering: will Prince Harry accept it, and if he does, will his wife accompany him?
If Prince Harry seizes this opportunity to see his sick father in the upcoming weeks, it could profoundly impact the worrisome family situation, potentially paving the way for healing and reconciliation.
Royal author Tom Quinn spoke to The Mirror and explained why Prince Harry should make the reunion with his father a possibility.
He told the media outlet: “When he returns and avoids his family, he gets bad publicity; if he doesn’t return and stays in his mansion in California he gets bad publicity. And with his father and sister-in-law both stricken with cancer, he can’t win – unless he makes a real effort to visit them, and that is something he can’t bring himself to do.”
Quinn added: “It’s not a good look. Harry and Meghan, the picture of youthful, physical health, are so locked into their feud with Harry’s family that even serious illness is not enough to make the couple forgive and forget.”
Some observers still say that The Duke of Sussex is unlikely to take the offer.
