Prince William still abides by the monarchy’s famous motto of never explaining and never complaining.
However, once in a while, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle allow him to clear the air or call them out on a topic.
Prince Harry delivered himself on a silver platter to Prince William with his latest made-up crisis involving a fallen American hero.
The Duke of Sussex will receive the Pat Tillman Award for his work with the Invictus Games at the ESPY ceremony this week.
Prince Harry has been hit by a viral and fiery backlash over his decision to accept the award named after an American hero.
Tillman was a football player turned soldier after the 911 terrorist attacks who was killed in Afghanistan.
Many former athletes and Tillman’s mother have publicly slammed Prince Harry for being “too wealthy, privileged, and divisive” for this recognition.
Sources close to Prince Harry told The Telegraph that Prince Harry is stunned and upset by the ramifications because he has dedicated his life to putting the spotlight on veterans.
A close insider stated: “Harry’s legacy on Invictus, the things he has achieved, that’s his real passion. This is the space in which he truly feels at home; it is something he deeply cares about. The reaction certainly took the shine off the award.”
While frustrated, Prince Harry, who served two tours in Afghanistan, is grateful for the previous award winners who have come out to support him.
Sources close to Prince William condemned Prince Harry’s childish behavior, disrespect for the hero, and constant need for media attention with two words: ” pathetic” and “sad.”
A friend of the Royal Family, speaking to The Daily Beast, expressed disbelief, saying: “I’m afraid it’s just a clear symbol of his desperate need for attention. The irony of the whole of the last four years is that Harry and Meghan said they were leaving the royal family so the media would leave them alone. And now, here Harry is, literally picking up retail awards on live TV. It’s pathetic.”
A military source, who worked with Harry in the army, added: “If you get a medal in the army, you don’t brag about it. So, the idea of turning up at a televised awards ceremony to be honored would be utterly embarrassing to most military people. It’s really sad to see Harry, who was an amazing guy who everyone respected, doing this kind of stuff.”
Earlier this year, Prince Harry, who flew Apache helicopters in the Afghan war, was awarded the title “Living Legend of Aviation” in a Beverly Hills, California ceremony.
Prince Harry was obliterated for accepting an award previously given to legendary astronauts and heroic pilots.
