McKrae Game, the founder of a South Carolina program that has been responsible for controversial “homosexual conversion” therapy sessions for twenty years already, has reportedly decided to come out as gay himself.
Game made the shocking official announcement recently, and claimed that he has been battling with his own true identity for long enough, and felt the need to come clean to the world finally. He found about his sexuality at 11 and went through a similar program.
He explained that he had struggled a lot trying to deny his attraction to men, and made the simple, but powerful statement, “I am a gay man.”
Game stated: “I struggled more so trying to deny [my attraction to men] than being able to accept my attractions and say, ‘I am a gay man.’ When I started truth ministry, I believed the gay community and the world was lying about homosexuality and this whole subject. I felt like it was this big ruse and there was a lot of deceit. I was trying to tell the truth.”
He continued with: “Now, I think its the complete opposite. I believe ex-gay ministry is a lie; conversion therapy is not just a lie; it’s very harmful. [Especially] when it takes it to the point of, ‘You need to change and here’s a curriculum, here’s how you do it, and you haven’t changed yet, keep at it, it’ll happen.”
He added that the last 26 years of his life had been a mess, indicating that he might have started the conversion program as a way of dealing with his insecurities (albeit a very wrong one).
Game shared: “I was a hot mess for 26 years, and I have more peace now than I ever did.”
The organization that Game founded — Hope for Wholeness — has been trying to distance itself from the situation and has not responded to any inquiries about it from the press.
The announcement was being planned for a long time, and the man was struggling with trying to figure out how to break the news to the world.
The situation has been met with mixed responses, but most of them have been in a humorous tone, with many people pointing out the ridiculous nature of the admission.
On the bright side, Game seems content with himself at this point, so that is probably a positive development for him in the very least, although it is not clear what he plans to do with regards to the organization itself at this point. He was fired from it in 2017.
McKrae is still married to his wife of 23 years, Julie Game, and they have two adult children together. She knows that he is gay.
