Ever since Princess Beatrice‘s recent wedding and her wearing the spectacular Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara for the important occasion, fans of the British Royal Family have been comparing the event to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s nuptial ceremony that took place in 2018.
According to rumors surrounding the wedding ceremony of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan initially wanted to wear a different piece from the Queen’s collection than the Queen Mary’s bandeau diadem she was given.
Apparently, Meghan first expressed interest in one of Queen Elizabeth II‘s most beloved tiaras — the Vladimir Kokoshnik Tiara, which was initially created for Grand Duchess Vladimir and after the fall of the Romanov dynasty found its way to Queen Mary and later to Queen Elizabeth II.
The valuable piece is reportedly one of the monarch’s most prized possessions, and many speculated that Markle wanted to wear this exact piece on her wedding day.
In addition, back then, Prince Harry infamously stated, “what Meghan wants, Meghan gets.”
However, the plans of the former Suits star were quickly shattered by Her Majesty, who reportedly struck back at Harry with the words, “She gets what tiara she’s given by me.”
Since the Queen is the one who decides which jewels in the Royal Collection were to be worn by other women of the royal family, Meghan’s demand reportedly left her in-laws with negative impressions of the former actress.
As a result, because of the diminished trust toward the Duchess of Sussex, she was denied full access to the Queen’s Royal Collection.
A royal insider had this to say about the Queen’s decision: “This is a surprising situation that has been going on behind the scenes over the past few months and has caused tension and upset, especially for Harry. It is at the discretion of the Queen and trusted advisers which items in the Royal Collection she chooses to loan out and to whom.”
The person went on to explain why the Queen was reluctant to give Prince Harry access to everything: “Aspects of Meghan’s behavior, including before the Royal Wedding, caused resentment with forces within Buckingham Palace.
To be perfectly honest, the Queen herself was not impressed with some of Meghan’s demands, especially as a new member of the family. As a result, Buckingham Palace has decided that not all items from the Queen’s Royal Collection will be opened up to Meghan.”
Some say this probably did not help the relationship.
