Even the royals do not always get things right all the time, and Prince William recently decided to open up a bit about a minor incident between him and Kate Middleton, in which he got her a gift that he described as one of the worst he had ever given her.
According to Prince William, it was a pair of binoculars that left a peculiar taste in Kate’s mouth and has been a talking point in their relationship ever since it happened.
It seems like Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, really was trying his hardest to win over the heart of Duchess Kate when he presented her with the gift, as he went on at length about how great the binoculars were, and how useful they could be for looking far into the distance.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was reportedly less than impressed, instead simply questioning what she was supposed to do with the tool in the first place.
William, who was a guest on Peter Crouch‘s podcast, said: “I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once – she’s never let me forget that.”
The future king went on to tell the soccer player: “That was early on in the courtship that was. I wrapped them. They were really nice. I was trying to convince myself about it. I was like, ‘but these are really amazing, look how far you can see!’ She was looking at me going, ‘they’re binoculars, what’s going on?’. It didn’t go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars.”
It was all in good humor, though, as it appears like both of them now look back on the situation with smiles on their faces, and it is not something that has been a negative talking point in their relationship.
Of course, the royal family is always a bit unusual when it comes to their relationships compared to others, and it is not out of the question that a gift like this might sometimes be the perfect choice for a given occasion.
In any case, it is good to see that the two have such fond memories to reminisce and laugh about. The royal couple has been close in public in recent weeks in a way that has sparked rumors of a new pregnancy.
Sources say that they have been thinking about adding another member to their family.
