Prince William and his younger brother, Prince Harry, never really agreed when it comes to Meghan Markle.
British historian and writer Robert Lacey claims in his book, Battle of the Brothers, that Prince Charles‘s sons had a huge fight in the fall of 2018 over Meghan’s bullying claims.
William never trusted the American actress and thought that she was secretly planning her return to America when the two siblings had a tense phone conversation that ended with Harry hanging up on his older brother.
At the time, some royal aides had accused Meghan of being a bully. The staff also said that Harry used to scream at them, a type of behavior that they believe is often linked to Hollywood actors.
According to the book, he told a close friend that he thought Meghan had an agenda and that his wife, Kate Middleton, was worried about her from the very beginning.
An official email from the staff is behind the initial rift between the two couples. The Sussexes have always denied the bullying claims.
According to Lacey, a Kensington staff member stated: “Meghan portrayed herself as the victim, but she was the bully. People felt run over by her. They thought she was a complete narcissist and sociopath — basically unhinged.”
Jason Knauf said in the email that Meghan’s behavior had pushed some aides to quit. William reached out to Harry after being made aware of the situation. The phone call only made things worse.
The aides reportedly feared Meghan and accused her of being cruel. A second aide told the writer: “I overheard a conversation between Harry and one of his top aides. Harry was screaming down the phone. Team Sussex was a really toxic environment.”
The 2018 fallout led Prince William to ask for the two households to be separated. Many had thought Prince Harry was responsible for the change and had blamed him and his wife for it.
In 2020, Harry and Meghan renounced their duties as members and moved to America with their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Earlier this year, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, they blasted the royal family for treating Meghan poorly when she was pregnant with her young son.
The power couple also claimed that members of the royal family made racist comments about their baby. William denied the accusations with an interesting comment: “We are very much not a racist family.”
Almost two years after the initial incident, tensions remain high in the family, and there is no clear indication that real peace is near.
