Queen Elizabeth II is getting ready to commemorate 70 years of reign, and at the age of 72, Prince Charles is aware that he will not be King for as long.
For several decades Charles, Prince of Wales, has been preparing for the role, and he has decided to govern very differently from his mother.
The Duke of Cornwall has hinted that he will dramatically shrink down the monarchy and cut down on spending.
In his effort to slim down the royal estate, non-working members of the royal family, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are set to lose luxurious apartments, castles, and other pricey items that were promised to them.
The Queen‘s eldest son and heir to the throne has also significantly reduced the number of royals undertaking official duties.
Prince Charles, known for being frugal, has decided to live “a flat above the shop” at Buckingham Palace with Camilla Parker Bowles when he ascends to the throne.
Via The Telegraph, royal expert Camilla Tominey said this about Prince Charles’s scheduled major shake-up: “There’s this sense that he wants a slimmed-down monarchy to make sure that everybody is doing their bit and [there are] no so-called hangers-on.”
As Prince Charles maps out how he will restructure the British monarchy, many call for him to pass the baton to his son Prince William.
The oldest heir apparent in British history has been told by many that it would be better to let Prince William step up to the helm because he is younger, more vibrant, and can modernize the kingdom with the help of Kate Middleton.
Royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti said there is “no strong argument” for Prince Charles to let the crown go to Prince William when Queen Elizabeth is no longer head of state.
Speaking to the Express, he explained why there are no winning arguments by saying: “I don’t think there’s a strong argument for it and I think that Prince Charles will be a different kind of monarch to his mother, and William will be a different kind of monarch to his father and grandmother.”
The royal commentator shared this brutal reality about Prince Charles’s reign: “I think there is no chance that Prince Charles will be King for as long as his mother. It’s just statistically and mathematically impossible. It will be a very different reign in just that respect. But I don’t see why he should pass the crown downwards, and I don’t think that would be desirable from anyone’s point of view. He’ll bring to the role his own agenda.”
He concluded by: “It’s not going to be a surprise when Charles is King; that’s how they’ve been planning it for years. I’m sure they must have conversations amongst themselves about the wider agenda of the Royal Family and the short-term aims of it. They might have already had conversations about where each of them will take the Monarchy in.”
Royal expert Stewart Pearce brought up Prince Charless’ unpopular wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall‘s complex past and salacious affairs, in his counterargument to let the Duke of Cambridge take his place on the throne.
Via Us Weekly, he shared that Prince Charles could create a constitutional law to make his son King and added: “We know the position he is about to inherit, and it’s going to be very interesting to see if Prince Charles will sit in the throne or will he create some form of a shift in constitutional law to allow his son to sit in the throne. That’s going to be very interesting. At the moment, the right of ascendency is Charles on the throne, but I don’t necessarily see Queen Camilla.”
Prince Charles is still hoping the situation changes in his favor.
