Punches have been thrown during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s soul-bearing interview with Oprah winfrey, and Queen Elizabeth II already has a plan in motion to retaliate.
And according to several royal experts, it will not be pretty because Queen Elizabeth has more experience than the power couple when it comes to using the media to wage a personal war.
Harry and the Duchess of Sussex sat down with the TV mogul for a sensational television interview entitled Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A Primetime Special and painted an unflattering portrait of the royal family. The interview made the monarchy appear cold and uncaring.
During the discussion, Meghan Markle revealed that she faced racism while pregnant, had suicidal thoughts, and Prince Harry confessed that Prince Charles turned his back on him when he and his family needed security after moving from Canada to California.
Before the special interview airing, experts with insider knowledge of what goes on in the royal family revealed how Queen Elizabeth II would deal with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
Royal commentator Sarah Robertson explained that there would be “endless battles” between Her Majesty and Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex and added: “CBS has drip-fed very revealing, and very damaging towards the Royals. She is trying to turn the tables on them. It’s not doing them any favors. After this, it’s a case of where does she go? If she lays everything out with Oprah, then it’s done.”
The royal insider claimed that Queen Elizabeth would eventually win the PR battle because she is a veteran at this chess game.
She stated: “But the Palace will come back after the interview. There will be more in this Punch and Judy show that we are witnessing. It could just keep running on and on. The tensions now between Buckingham Palace and Harry and Meghan – it is all-out war. I don’t see there is any way back. Neither side looks like they are going to back down. The Queen will win the battle in the long-run”.
Another expert in all things related to the British family, Mark Borkowski, echoed Robertson’s sentiment by saying that Queen Elizabeth will not roll over in her fight with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex because she has “faced bigger challenges.”
Borkowski said: “If you go into battle against the British establishment and particularly the Royal Family, don’t expect them to roll over. They have a very powerful way of protecting the brand, the brand of the Royal Family. We have gone from a cold war into a very hot war. This is the beginning now of a lot more stories.”
