It seems that Prince Harry should have had better timing to release his latest video.
The British prince delighted some and apparently angered many over the weekend by releasing a goofy video to announce that not only will the Invictus Games go as planned, but he will be attending.
According to the Invictus Games Foundation, the sporting event will take place from April 16-22 in The Hague.
Meghan Markle‘s husband opted to deliver a funny performance in the video where he was dressed in orange from head to toe — the color of the Netherlands.
He wore bright orange shorts, matching shorts, a tangerine bucket hat, and silly glasses. Prince Harry then proceeded to speak Dutch to the several Invictus Games reps.
While goofing around, Prince Harry told the Dutch staff: “One more time, guys, please, you know I need to get this right, and I really want to get it right as well, so how do I say ‘Good afternoon, you’ve done a great job’ in Dutch?”
Prince Harry was given the accurate translation, and he correctly repeated it. A staff member later told Prince Harry: “Can you say stroopwafel?” And he replied by: “Stroopwafel. Love those.”
The Duke of Sussex unveiled the Zoom promo clip for the games one day after he stirred the royal pot by explaining that he would not be by Queen Elizabeth II‘s side for the somber Thanksgiving service for her late husband, Prince Philip.
Prince Harry confirmed in a brief statement: “The Duke will not be returning to the UK in late March but hopes to visit his grandmother as soon as possible.”
The royal family, including Prince William and Prince Charles, alongside Queen Elizabeth, will attend the event on March 29 at Westminster.
It is believed that Prince Harry decided to skip the event paying tribute to his late grandfather because of his security drama and lawsuit against Queen Elizabeth’s government.
Prince Harry has taken the British government to the highest court in the land because it refuses to let him pay for adequate security for him and his family during their potential trip to England.
A royal source spoke to The Sun and explained that Prince Harry’s video drop and announcement have “raised tensions” in the royal family.
Members of the royal family are baffled by the fact that he can be in Holland and not find a way to work out the security concerns that he has and make it to London and be with his grandmother.
The insider told the publication that the news is emotionally straining for this reason: “It was also hoped that the Queen would meet his daughter Lilibet for the first time, and that would make it even more of a special occasion.”
The person familiar with the situation added that the royals are having a difficult time comprehending the news because he will be just miles away from the aging Queen.
The source shared: “Now, none of that will go ahead – yet he is willing to travel to Holland for the Invictus Games, which is only 300-miles away. It will certainly raise eyebrows and most probably hurt feelings.”
Between Queen Elizabeth’s health issues and the chaos surrounding Andrew, the British royal family has been having a difficult few months.
And Prince Harry’s decision to skip the event and miss the opportunity to let the Queen meet Lilibet Diana has rubbed many in the wrong way.
