Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s upcoming trip to London to attend Queen Elizabeth II‘s Platinum Jubilee celebration has been struck with tragedy and a very difficult choice.
It has been confirmed that Thomas Markle, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex‘s estranged father, has been hospitalized after suffering another major stroke.
On May 23, pictures surfaced showing Prince Harry’s father-in-law being loaded in an ambulance in Tijuana, Mexico.
He was later transferred to a hospital in California. It has since been revealed that he has lost the ability to speak.
Meghan Markle’s half-sister and estranged sister has issued a statement explaining that their father is getting the medical treatment he needs. She revealed the severity of the stroke.
Samantha Markle said: “Two heart attacks, a pandemic, and a stroke. I don’t think he saw it coming. I’m just so thankful to God that I called him when I did because he was slurring his speech, he couldn’t talk, and I feel like If we hadn’t got emergency care right away, it could’ve been fatal. I feel really blessed that he is getting some of his strength back, and it’s going to take several, maybe six months, maybe a year to get his speech back.”
She continued: “He can work with a speech therapist, the stroke he had in the speech production part. The stroke was in the right side of the brain, so the damage was on the left, and he’s left-handed, but it also impaired his speech and his ability to swallow.”
Meghan Markle’s estranged dad was supposed to fly to London and attend Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee.
He recently said in an interview that he was hoping to meet Prince Charles and possibly reconcile with his daughter and spend some time with his grandchildren — Archie and Lilibet Diana.
Mr. Markle said: “I’m looking forward to it. I’m going to show my respect for the Queen, and I’m going to make sure that the Queen understands that my entire family respects the Queen and the royals.”
The 77-year-old’s health crisis has put Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face-to-face with a new dilemma. Should they carry on as if nothing has happened and be viewed as heartless?
Or should they swallow their pride, show compassion, and visit the man who caused them so much heartache over the years with his PR stunts, mean comments, and disturbing interviews?
Royal expert Richard Kay shared his thoughts on the difficult problem that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing by saying: “No one is quite sure these days how Harry and Meghan will respond to the plight of the Duchess’s father and whether they will put aside the bitterness of the past four years and travel the four hours from their home in Santa Barbara to be at his bedside. This is a particular conundrum for a couple who in their public roles make a virtue of their compassion.”
The royal commentator went on to say that Prince Harry and Markle might regret not rushing to the man’s bedside.
He said: “Is it really too late for Harry to put the past behind him and reach out to poorly Mr. Markle? I don’t think so — but if he does not, I fear he may come to regret it.”
The Duchess of Sussex and her father stopped communicating in 2018 after he humiliated her ahead of her royal wedding to Prince Harry.
The former lighting director has since taken part in several interviews where he dropped multiple truth bombs — much like Markle and Prince Harry have been doing to the royal family.
On Thursday, Meghan Markle made a surprise visit to Uvalde, Texas, to honor the 19 young students and two teachers who died during an elementary school shooting.
Markle was applauded by many for donating blood and paying her respects and slammed by others for not visiting her sick father.
