Meghan Markle has decided to speak her mind, and not everyone is happy about it.
Some inside and outside the Palace are furious at the remarks and confessions she made on her new Spotify podcast, Archetypes.
While the people in Buckingham Palace are not directly talking to the media to slam Markle, the royal experts and authors are not holding back.
Prince Harry‘s wife decided to launch her long-awaited project with Spotify with her friend, Serena Williams.
The pair tackled some personal stories and zoomed in on the topic of women being ambitious who are often perceived as “power hungry, manipulative, not trusted.”
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, confessed that she grew up with encouraging words from her teachers and other mentors, pushing her to be ambitious, fearless, and limitless.
However, her world was shattered once she married Prince Harry because she discovered that suddenly, it was a “terrible, terrible thing to be ambitious.”
Talking about the double standard that women face, Meghan Markle stated: “This feminist ideology trickled down into nearly every aspect of my education. It’s probably safe to say into every aspect of my life. This message to me and my classmates was clear: our futures as young women were limitless. Ambition? That was the whole point!”
Markle shared more details about the negative feelings that she endured while being in the spotlight during her romance with Prince Harry.
She stated: “So I don’t remember ever personally feeling the negative connotation behind the word ‘ambitious’ until I started dating my now-husband…and apparently ambition is a terrible, terrible thing, for a woman that is — according to some. So, since I’ve felt the negativity behind it, it’s really hard to un-feel it. I can’t unsee it, either, in the millions of girls and women who make themselves smaller — so much smaller — on a regular basis.”
Royal biographer Angela Levin blasted Markle by saying that she should have followed Queen Elizabeth II and Kate Middleton‘s lead and understood that royals do not focus on ambition but place emphasis on duty.
Speaking on TalkTV, she stated: “The thing is, she had every possible aid and help and offer to do good work with the Commonwealth all around – and still not enough. But it’s not the ambition that gets you happy within the Royal Family. It’s a sense of duty. It’s a sense of working together. It’s a sense of supporting the Queen. She doesn’t go there to show how clever she is. She has done sort of quietly, Catherine.”
Levin continued by praising Middleton by sharing: “Catherine has done wonders with her charity, helping with mental health issues and also talking about very young children; if you catch them young and help their mothers, then it makes a big difference to the community – all those are very important.”
She continued by calling out Meghan Markle by saying: “It’s not to put her on a pedestal, but nothing is ever enough. She tries to become like everybody who’s wealthy. She’s got to attach herself to them. Serena Williams worked really, really hard to get to where she is. She’s done very well. Meghan has married a prince. She’s also done very well.”
