Demi Lovato says she “can’t do this anymore” and is asking her fans to have her back through this last tour. The Holy Fvck Tour launched on August 13 in Springfield, Illinois.
The new world tour went through Iowa, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile. It is expected to wrap up in Texas on November 6. It is in support of her eighth studio album, Holy Fvck, which was released on August 19.
Lovato, 30, put out three singles from the project — “Skin of My Teeth,” “Substance,” and “29” — in the past three months. However, only the third track has managed to chart in the United States and Canada.
Demi Lovato revisits Wilmer Valderrama relationship on “29”
The song “29” covers Lovato’s relationship with NCIS actor Wilmer Valderrama. The pair met when the singer was only 17 and began a relationship a year later.
The age gap and the notion of consent are the central themes of “29.” While she does not go directly after the father of one, she concludes that at 29, she would never consider starting a relationship with a 17-year-old.
It is clear that Lovato now thinks the relationship was a mistake. The two entertainers were together on and off for six years. They ended the complex relationship for good in 2016.
In Lovato’s 2017 Simply Complicated documentary, she said the following about the 42-year-old actor: “I think it was love at first sight. We connected on a level that I’ve never connected with anybody before. He was just my rock, my everything.”
Valderrama got engaged to Amanda Pacheco in December 2020, and they welcomed a daughter together in February 2021.
Demi Lovato: “I Can’t Do This Anymore”
Tuesday, Lovato took to her Instagram Stories and shared some of her feelings about the tour. In a series of photos of a window, she wrote: “I’m so f—ing sick I can’t get out of bed. I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys.”
The “I Love Me” artist quickly deleted the post that had her fans worried since she did not elaborate on her illness.
However, she did post a follow-up that was a little more upbeat. In it, she added: “Gonna power thru it for you guys [sick emoji] [black heart emoji] I’ll need help singing, so sing loud for me bb’s!!”
Lovato also had a special message directed at her fans in Chile; she wrote: “I barely have a voice, I’m gonna be pointing the mic to the audience a lot tonight.”
While this is not totally clear, supporters of the pop music star might not have the opportunity to see her on stage again for a long time.
Lovato says she has brain damage from 2018 overdose
For those wondering what is going on with Lovato’s health. While there are other possibilities, she did say in 2021 that her 2018 overdose did leave many physical and mental traces.
At the time, Lovato suffered three strokes and one heart attack. She feels certain limitations to this day, which might explain her desire to retire from touring.
In her YouTube docu-series Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil, she said: “I was left with brain damage, and I still deal with the effects of that today. I don’t drive a car because I have blind spots in my vision. For a long time, I had a really hard time reading. It was a big deal when I was able to read a book, which was like two months later because my vision was so blurry.”
Also, in 2021, the Disney Channel alum came out as non-binary using the pronouns they/them. However, in August, she reverted back to she/her because she is “such a fluid person.”
Through the ups and downs, her fans have stuck by her side, and they will always be there for her.
