It has been confirmed that Prince William has landed a new role ahead of King Charles III‘s historical coronation.
The coronation ceremony will be held at Westminster Abbey on May 6th, which will be Archie‘s 4th birthday.
King Charles will downsize the event to fewer attendees. It will also be shorter and less pageantry to respect the post-colonial era.
A source explained to The Mirror: “The king has stripped back a lot of the coronation in recognition that the world has changed in the past 70 years.”
Prince William has joined the coronation committee and is an active member who is determined to remove all “archaic,” “feudal,” and “imperial” elements from the ceremony, according to The Telegraph.
A royal aide told the British media outlet: “[William] is taking a keen interest in the ceremony and how it reflects modern Britain.”
As Prince William steps into the spotlight, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still in the dark.
It is not known if they will play any role at the event. Thus far, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex‘s invitation is also up in the air.
Some wonder if Prince Harry and Markle will attend or stay in California to celebrate Archie’s birthday.
It was deemed a snub by King Charles to select Archie’s special day for the ceremony, but royal author Tom Bower told Page Six it is not so.
The author of Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors said: “Archie’s birthday was the last thing they thought about.”
Famous royal expert Katie Nicholl spoke to Entertainment Tonight to add: “Well, having the coronation on Archie’s birthday is definitely not a snub. I think it’s very much a happy coincidence. Obviously, a huge amount of planning has to go into an important moment in history, such as a coronation, and the royal calendar is full of anniversaries and birthdays, so I think this is absolutely one of those occasions where it’s a coincidence and hopefully a happy coincidence.”
Other observers say that at this level of preparation, little is left to chance and whoever picked the day knew what they were doing. A new King is getting crowned. It is unlikely to be a coincidence.
While the Sussexes care a lot about their place in the Royal Family, their priority right now seems to be their brand. It is working, thanks to the success of Markle’s podcast, Archetypes.
