Mariana Varela and Fabiola Valentín were secretly married. Varela, who is 26 years old, is a former Miss Argentina. Valentín, 22, was Miss Puerto Rico.
The two women met in 2020 while competing at the Miss Grand International pageant. Interestingly, both of them landed spots in the top 10.
The beauty queens were able to keep their relationship private for close to two years while posing as friends on social media. They were only hints about a relationship before the marriage was confirmed.
The wedding announcement was made on Instagram via a 30-second video featuring some of the couple’s romantic getaways. The clip has amassed over two million views online.
The Argentinean has 150,000 followers on the photo-sharing platform. Her new spouse has 122,000 supporters. Their caption read: “After deciding to keep our relationship private, we opened the doors to them on a special day.”
The updates were well received. This pushed Varela to add the following message on her Instagram Stories: “Thanks for all the love! We are very happy and blessed. I wish you that the love you are giving us is multiplied! Endless thanks.”
Valentín wrote a loving birthday message to her wife earlier this year, which hinted at the ladies’ closeness. The tender note read: “Thank you for making me part of your life and accomplice of your happiness. You are a priceless treasure, and I hope to keep our friendship forever.”
Varela and Valentin tied the knot at the Marriage Bureau in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on October 28.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Argentina since 2010. The same thing happened in Puerto Rico in 2015.
The story got a lot of support from people who back LGBTQ rights. However, some critics say they oppose this kind of union for religious reasons.
